How long take to receive unconditional after sending certificates via EUCLID?
-
Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat threadI really think it depends on the program. It took about a week after having my referee (postgraduate application) send in a letter of recommendation to receive an unconditional offer.(Original post by Oldshoesandsocks)

Anyways, I definitely have a place to live in Edinburgh now! £300 a month for a single room (utilities included), very central location, and only 1.5 miles from the gardens (which is where my course will be taught). I'm a pretty happy camper. -
Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat thread
Did anyone else get a strange maths offer? I'm a Northern Ireland applicant and got an offer of AAA for maths and physics. I thought this would be grand, but I did my maths A-Level maths in one year (getting an A*) and have been told that it doesn't count towards my offer. They want AAA in one year - which seems a bit silly seeing as my offer for a maths degree now depends on English Literature when I will have three which are directly relevant to the course (maths, further maths and physics). They sent me an email saying AAA in one year was typical of all their maths offers so was curious to know if any others had come across the same problem.

Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat threadThat's fairly normal in terms of Edinburgh wanting all of their grades in one sitting - it will more than likely say that in your offer.(Original post by rmk26)

I would say the reasoning is that it is obviously much easier to meet an AAA offer if you already have an A* in the bag as then it's basically an AA offer which is relatively easy. The university wants to see that you can achieve at a very high standard with a "normal" work load and the normal work load is 3 full A levels in one academic year.
Annoying yes given you've applied for maths, but it's fairly standard practice at most universities. With maths in particular universities are also interested in seeing that you're able to function beyond the world of maths so it would be unlikely that you would be allowed to use maths + further maths + one other A level to meet your offer, particularly given you already had the A level maths grade. If you do exceptionally well and get A* in maths then it's highly probable that you'll also do well in further maths, which is why universities want to see a breath of study rather than just a focus on maths. It could be that the only reason you even got the offer in the first place was because English literature is a very different subject to maths/physics and made you stand out from other applicants who generally offer your combination plus another science.
Where's the gardens?(Original post by nosceteipsummm)

The only ones I can think of are Princes Street gardens and I highly doubt you're being taught there
Or the botanical gardens, I guess if you're doing something like botany? But even then I wouldn't expect you to be there all of the time!
Where will you be staying anyway? -

Bingo, the Royal Botanic Gardens! I'm getting my MSc in the Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants, and it's jointly taught by the RBGE and the university; the handbook says it's almost all taught at the gardens (odd, I know)! I found private housing in New Town.Last edited by nosceteipsummm; 02-07-2012 at 06:58. -
Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat thread
I've got unconditional firm on ucas now (ten days after sending my grades per email, maybe six days after Edinburgh went from being my insurance to firm, if anyone still needs an estimate).
I was wondering, does that mean I'm done with the process and they don't need further certificates? Because I sent them the paper notifying students of their exam results, not the full graduation certificate with official translation. Didn't get any reaction on Euclid either, just on ucas. I should (and probably will) just go write them an email about it to make sure anyway, but maybe someone here knows. -
Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat thread

Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat threadI'm not sure but I don't think they'd be very lenient unless you missed your offer by just 1 point(Original post by oliverhoong)

I'd call them up and try to persuade them to take you, and get in touch with your insurance too.
Best of luck! -
Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat threadI called them two weeks ago about a similar problem because I was panicked I had messed up. They told me they would look at the results carefully and decide either, to except the result or more likely to wait until all results are in (sometime in August) and if places are available they would give them to the people closest to their offers. If they are going to wait you would be informed.(Original post by F1Guille)
Edinburgh asked for 37pts and a 5 in Maths and Physics HL, I got a 5 in both but 36pts, how harsh are they this year? I kinda screwed cause I was predicted 40, do they look at that or not? Thanks guys
Guille
Luckily my results were ok so I emailed them in last Thursday, but I’m still nervous waiting for a confirmation.

Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat threaddo you think for some courses there would be more places than people who firmed the offer for that course?I called them two weeks ago about a similar problem because I was panicked I had messed up. Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat thread
Does anybody know how competitive pure linguistics is? It seems to be faaar less competitive than something like English, but for some reason needs higher grades... (AKA they need 37 and 666 and I have 40 and 775, is there any point in hoping?)
Also, any idea why last year only 11 people accepted their offer (according to the statistics), but in 2007-2009 it was always around 25 people each year? Did something change or am I missunderstanding something? -
Re: The "I've applied to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" chat threadI'm the same position. I made my IB offer, but they haven't confirmed my place yet. Has your Track updated yet?(Original post by Oldshoesandsocks)
