I'm applying for Information Systems and Information Technology for Management Business. I haven't sent it off yet.

If you get an offer, I would highly recommend the ITMB degree. I am a current 2nd year, and its unreal! A spec written by employers stating exactly what they want, is not something many degrees offer! You'll have so many opportunities to meet senior managers from companies who could potentially end up hiring you!

Good luck with your application!

Thanks I have an offer for both just deciding I'll have a look on the visit day and see on the open day before finalising. Just that the the BIS an the ITMB have quite similar modules.

There is a common first year for both ITMB and BIS. So you will study the exact same thing on both courses. However, on ITMB you will have Guru lectures where industry specialists will come in and talk about a specific area, could be project management, IT security - all sorts basically! This isnt available to BIS students.

In your second year, if you do BIS you will have the chance to take an option, whereas ITMB you get no options, reason being because we are working to a specification set out by employers - BIS are not.

Then final year, supposedly ITMB is more IT based and BIS more business based, but I think that depends really, half your time in your final year will be your project/dissertation, so if you want it more IT/Business then thats up to you really!

Is there a difference career wise? like say can you be a systems analyst? I'm just not sure if the ITMB is a more if you want to be in a manager role?

Does anyone know if Northumbria accepts UCAS points from AS subjects which haven't been continued at A2? x

Not at all, both degrees could lead to a systems analysts role. I know for a fact that ITMB do more systems analysis than BIS students. Unless they specifically choose the software development module in second year BIS students wont study it. But ITMB you have to, because again we are sticking to the criteria set out by employers.

In case you dont know, the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences, the school where both BIS and ITMB are taught are having an applicant open day, on Saturday 18th Feb - good opportunity to find out more if you want!

Got an Interview for Northumbria on the 17th of February for Fashion Communication! I'm really excited but its getting tricky to cut down everything for my Visual CV... I guess its better to have too much than too little.
Anyone else applied to Fashion Communication ?

Hello there,

It depends entirely on what course you are applying for and the subject of the AS?
If you can provide these details then I can find out for you.

Hello there,

Maths and English GCSE at grade C or above are compulsory for our business courses and must haven been achieved prior to application. Functional Skills would not be considered as an alternative unfortunately. Realistically you should be looking at resitting the GCSE this summer so that the appropriate grade is achieved before you apply for the 2013 cycle. Applications via UCAS should be in before 15 January 2013 for September 2013 entry.

We would be looking for predicted grades Distinction Distinction Merit from a BTEC National Extended Diploma.

Sorry if this is not the outcome you were wanting,

Leanne
Oh yeah thats finee quite understand that, am glad i found out in good time, well my second choice of degree was BA in criminology and as you already know i havent got my maths GCSE at grade C would they consider it for an offer to study criminology?
thanks

Yeah I've booked to go to that open day to find out more to decide which course out of those two to put as my firm. Thanks for your help .
I'm slightly leaning more for the ITMB course now seems quite good. I'll see after the open day. Do more girls or guys do the course? even thought I don't mind really.

Good to know, I'll be there answering questions on ITMB and BIS too!

Typically, IT courses are more male populated but there is a big drive to get girls into IT at the moment, including some big companies offering help and support to female IT students, because generally there is a challenge to get the roles, especially senior ones over their male colleagues, which is ridiculous if you can do the job! Dont be put off, as I say support is in place!

Aw cool thanks, I'm not sure I'll make it ontime for the presentation thing or I'll be late it starts at 11.30 and I won't get into Newcastle airport until 10.30. I hope it won't take long from the airport to get to there.
Anyone going to the law school open day on March 10th?
Just accepted an offer - as my insurance - for Adult Nursing at Northumbria. Do I still have the same chance as everyone else for accommodation or do I have to wait longer?
