I have a conditional offer from Newcastle Uni to study Msc of International Marketing. I compared it with different universities such as Leeds or Exeter and found out that the degree provided by Newcastle is accredited by CIM. I dont have much information about CIM. Is this a good advantage of the course in Newcastle over the others? I am still considering to study there. There is only one thing that makes me feel hesitated, is the ranking of Newcastle business school (only 30). Please correct me if i make any wrong point here.
    Many thanks,

I stayed in Marris House, which is attached to Ricky Road so I've spent quite a bit of time there.

First year history doesn't count towards your degree, its just pass or fail (a pass is 40%) so you can pretty much just spend the whole of first year partying (or whatever other leisure activities you like to do!)

Sounds perfect! but does it not hinder you from taking certain subjects if you dont do well?

Its great. Accommodation is slightly more flashy then Ricky Road (basically you get a TV, and you get 2 toilets and showers between 6 people instead of 1 between 6 people like in Ricky, and you get washbasins in each room which are really handy and the water is much nicer then from the communal tap), and the social life is just as great. Marris House has got its own community and its right next door to Ricky Road (which is much larger) so you will most likely end up meeting people there to.

My tip would be bring a few plates, glasses, mugs and cutlery, and maybe a non-stick pan or wok. Everything else is provided for pretty much, so don't bring a load of stuff you won't need like kettles and toasters etc.

And not specific to Marris House, but for shopping needs go to the Granger Market in town for meat, cheese, fruit and veg (loads of choice and cheap), and order everything else from a supermarket (they all do deliveries and if other people chip in the delivery cost is never more then a quid). Doing joint meals is generally cheaper, and it also means you can pool together cooking expertise (and learn a few things in the process). Most efficient way to shop I reckon.

Other then that, you'll just have to see what its like when you get here. Freshers week is great, but it usually takes a while to ease into the new way of life and establish a solid friendship group. You'll meet loads of interesting people and you'll have a blast. Like I said, first year is only pass or fail so try not to stress out about work too much and concentrate on living.

Thanks for all the advice! If I'm honest I was slightly worried when I got Marris, but you have reassured me that I made the correct choice, and if it doesn't feel right, it's only one year! I'll quote again if I think of any questions that you may be able to answer. Thanks

Yeah I've got a conditional for architecture too, I'm a little bit worried that I might not get an A in one of my subjects, but reasonably confident that I'll get at least an A in the other 2, still got 3 exams to go so I'll see how they turn out and maybe my feelings might change..

I asked them and they said your put in the 'near miss' pile, and then they obviously see if there is still room for you.

Luckily I don't have any exams because I'm doing an art foundation at the moment. I need a distinction
    Is Newcastle your first choice?

Yup, finished the course a few weeks ago, so now it's the agonising wait for my results lol. And it's my first choice as well =)
What A levels are you taking?

ahh at least you've got your workload out of the way though, I could imagine an art foundation course could be pretty hectic!

I'm taking Maths, Computing and Art. At least Art's out of the way now, but I've still got 1 computing and 2 maths exams to go! Can't wait until they're out of the way, even though we'll have that agonising wait for results. Did you take A-Levels last year then?

Haha yeah, I'm lucky I don't have any more exams! The foundation course is a bit nuts, but it's not really as difficult as A levels, atleast not in the first couple of sections! XD It's kind of like an extended A level art with more freedom! XD
And yeah, I did my A levels last year. I took Art, Music and RS. (Yours are a lot more architecture-based than mine! XD) Finishing them was the best feeling ever! I remember hugging everyone who came out of my last exam! XD
