Has American music finally run out of steam?
It goes without saying that America's contribution to music is mammoth. America produced everything from Michael Jackson to Foo Fighters, Lauryn Hill, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Marvin Gaye, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin - and they invented about 40 genres along the way. But now they seem to be out of ideas.

There's some very good underground-ish bands, depending on what genres you like.
Agalloch and Wolves in the Throne Room to name two (though they are pretty much the only two american bands i listen to frequently)

American music hasn't ran out of steam. The American music industry has ran out of steam due to trying to pander to nothing but teenage girls. Good American music still exists if you know where to find it.

    No way hose.

It's just moving towards different genres of music.

My best era of music was the 90's
    When rapping was rapping.
    And hip hop existed.

They're decent, I like their sound over most death metal bands. But I don't tend to listen to them too much.

Lol. It's not run out of anything. There's nothing with Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Jessie J and all other pop artists. If it doesn't appeal to you, fair enough but you're opinion is just that, you're opinion. It appeals to the majority and at the end of the day that's what it's always been about.

Except for the handfull of rappers still making decent hip hop i would say America are outclassed in every other genre.

Koreans put out the best pop.. that is undisputed..

I dont know much about the rock/metal etc side of it as i dont listen to that as much as i used to but when it comes down to electronic genres America is bottom of the pile on all of them, especially after mortally wounding dubstep.

House, techno, drum and bass, hardcore, trance, IDM..... i would love to say we are putting out the best stuff but you need to look to east/central Europe for that. Belgium is probably producing the best at the moment IMO.

On the classical level they have some good composers but no one really cares about that so i wont go into it.

This is the dumbest topic I've ever seen. How...I mean wh.....
    ..

How can an entire country "run out of steam" when it comes to producing music? It's all about individuals, nothing to do with the country.

American mainstream rappers are starting to run out steam (e.g lil wayne, drake, rick ross, soulja boy, wacka floka flame, DJ 'pokemon' Khaled etc).

However underground rapper plus some other non-mainstream rap is moving up and is becoming the next big thing. A new batch of talented rappers are up and coming and rap about issues other than women, cars, money and sex. The next up and coming rappers are Hopsin, J Cole, Immortal Technique (may not make it as he only likes to rap about politics), Big K.R.I.T, possibly Dumbfoundead etc.

If you want to know some of their best songs, just ask. I will probably PM you them as I don't want to spam/advertise this thread with the music I am passionate about.
