Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012What you going to be studying?(Original post by KorbenDallas)
I will also be nearly 22 and be moving a similar distance. I wouldn't worry about it. After 18, age is fairly irrelevant, just like at work. I can't wait to crack open my first beer after moving in.
Haha I'm not too bothered about the age compared to people around me, it's more the fact I did a HEFCC course to get into university, and it's not as in depth and thorough as AS/A2 levels, so everyone else is going to be so much better prepared knowledge wise. -

Ah, well I'm sure you wouldn't've been accepted if they didn't think you'd do well! -

Re: University of Hertfordshire Firmers 2012Hey,(Original post by LastHype)
Bonjour!- For all things about Herts 2012 entry!- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FutureHertsUniStudents2012- If you have any questions about the university feel free to post here or ask Pop_tart or DoktaUH.
I'm an international student and I got an offer form Herts for Automotive Engineering Im a bit confused though, the requirements are:
ACADEMIC CONDITIONS
This offer is conditional on passing all 4th semester modules, with at least 6 at grade 5 and 2 at grade 4, and achieving 65% or above in Maths and Physics.
What does it mean by grade 5 and grade 4?
Also when they say 65% does that mean that should be my percentage when I leave from college??
They werent exactly specific I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, would really help me out - thanks -
Re: University of Hertfordshire Firmers 2012The grading in secondary schools differs from country to country, some give out As, Bs and Cs others a 1 to 10. So first of all, what kind of grading does your country use? Do they use grades like a '5' or do they use letters (like A)?(Original post by mehtab06)

Your offer seems quite specific to be honest, you need to get a 'grade 5 mark' in at least 6 modules and a 'grade 4 mark' in 2 of your modules with at least '65%' in the two stated subjects. If you do not understand what these 'grades' mean or what the percentage is then you should contact the university as soon as possible as they might have made a mistake. It might be that the whole offer is wrong because they used the wrong kind of grading system (your school/country might not use them). Do you get what I am saying here?
So, preferably, RING them because this is much easier and straight forward then sending loads of emails that take forever - just explain how you have received an offer but you do not understand it because either your country does not use the grading stated on your offer or the offer is unreasonably high (this sometimes happens because UK university have no knowledge of how these systems work).
Hope this helps a bit. If you have any more questions, do ask!

Thanks for replying. My country uses percentages only and not the grades system as they stated. So does this mean I only need 65% in physics and Maths in order to fill the requirements they want? -

So you need to contact the university and explain to them that at your school they only use 'percentages' as marks and that these grade on your offer do not make any sense. They will most likely change the offer to something more appropriate. Keep in mind that due to the Queen's diamon jubilee both Monday and Tuesday will be bank holidays so the university will probably be closed till Wednesday.
Best of luck! -
Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012Nice to meet you(Original post by Legavil)
Me ! Me !! Over here !!! (raises hand and waves) =D
firm or insurance? herts is my insurance and the way those A levels went I'm well on my way to herts this September. What's your story?

Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012Hi there.(Original post by Emy25)
Hi im doing psychology and got a conditional offer from Herts and picked it as my firm choice ..i heard there were alot of clearing spaces for psychology too
do you think it would be the same this year??
I honestly don't know. I think the general number of applications will decrease, so they may give more offers out, therefore decreasing the number of likely clearing places.
But this is only my personal guess.
I take it this is from the aspect of in case you don't get the points/grades? -
Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012Nice to meet you too =) i put herts as my firm. Now I just need to pass my "diploma d'esame di stato" (italian version of the A levels) . Pretty excited about uni =D What course did you apply for ?(Original post by itsdyo)

Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012I've had this panic too (doing Access HE, no experience of A levels.) Basically I've been told degrees are as different to A levels as A levels are to Acccess/HEFCC so all students will need a little catch up time in the first year. Lecturers spend some time getting everyone at the same level so we won't get left behind! We may have some advantages over A level students too if you've done referencing and study skills.(Original post by Kvitty)

Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012I'll be 21 in September. Glad I'm not the only mature student! Are you moving into halls?(Original post by Kvitty)
I'm ****ting myself for going to uni now like, will be nearly 22 when I start, subject knowledge will be far worse than most of the students on the course, and I have to move 270~ miles. Getting hammered at freshers will be a nice relaxing moment I think. -
Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012Quite a few mature students posted on YouGo as well, seems to be alot around this year.(Original post by vp-12)
Hey
there seems to be quite a few older people going so kinda relieved! You moving into halls?
-
Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012Yeah, picked Telford court then Roberts Way. I hope I get one of the two because I really don't remember where I applied after that. All at College Lane though, can just roll out of bed into class(Original post by vp-12)

Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012
Hey guys im planning on going to herts (my firm) in september). I hope i get the grades that i need, but wouldnt mind too much going through clearing at Herts Uni. Has anyone gone through clearing and got a place at Herts b4 and what were the courses like?
-
Re: University of Hertfordshire applicants 2012Yeah I will be, I've applied for my accommodation(Original post by vp-12)
I'll be 21 in September. Glad I'm not the only mature student! Are you moving into halls?
, how they expect me to pluck £400 out the air within 7days of receiving my accommodation offer or risk losing my place is downright absurd, but yeah i'll hopefully be living in halls. Will you? What you hoping to study?
Yeah I think subject knowledge I'll be behind other people but for self guided learning etc I've done so much on my access course it won't come as a shock to me, whereas it might for the A level students.(Original post by Muddy_Hands)
