Ridiculously early and especially seeing as I might not get an interview :L
Congratulations!! I've applied Bristol, Cam, York, Cardiff and Surrey, you? Offers from York and Surrey and interview at Cardiff on November 22nd!
You never know - I think it's still been worth applying to Cambridge, even just to get earlier offers from other unis!

Wow, well done! It feels really good to have some offers already and by the looks of it you'll have another one by the end of next month. I'm going to Leeds on the 25th so hopefully it'll be confirmed by the end November too!

Good luck with your other choices, especially Cambridge!

I think if I hadn't tried, I'd have always regretted it and SO TRUE! It's a nice feeling to know that somewhere wants you when some people have barely started their applications :L

Thank you! Exciting times for us both then; good luck to you too

    Thanks,

For those who have got offers- how long did it take them to let you know if you had an offer or not?

Hey - saw you've applied for FTV.. I applied last year for deferred entry so will be starting the course in 2012! woo

I was told when I went for interview the the majority for FTV are interviewed (I think it's standards when you're awaiting results) and only 3 or 4 offers were handed out unconditionally.

It took York quite a while to get back to me, but I applied in the massive rush. They sent me a letter saying I had an interview first, so I wouldn't go crazy checking track

Hope they get back to you soon!

    Good luck!

Yep I am indeed, my dream course! Pretty nervous about getting invited for interview, but more nervous now about getting the bloody grades (which they've just put up!) If you apply for deferred entry I'm guessing you had to get ABB?

So is it unlikely that they'll just give me an offer straightaway? And that I'll be called for interview first before they decide? How did your interview go? I really don't know what to expect if I do get called! I've got a portfolio ready and lots of things to talk about, that should help!

Wow! Didn't realise they'd put the boundaries up. Last year the requirements were ABB and there was no mention of a portfolio.

It is quite unlikely I think - they want to talk to you in person and see that you're not just taking the course because you couldn't decide what else to do at uni (sad, but unfortunate truth of quite a few applicants who apply for media degrees). Also, then if you miss your offer by a little bit, they can go on the strength of the interview when deciding whether or not to accept you.

When I went for interview we had to prepare a pitch for a programme or short film. Details of that came in my letter for interview, but I'm not sure if they'll get you to do that now that you've got a portfolio.

Either way, over prepare, and communicate your passion. I wrote up a whole pitch, documented as we'd have to at uni for my programme which really impressed the guy... I don't think it was so much the content, but the fact that I went to the effort, they want people who are applying for their dream course, as was the case with me, and it sounds like it is the case with you too, so just make sure you communicate it in your prep etc.

Don't be afraid to admit that you're wrong or that you're not sure about a lot of things either. My interviewer pointed out a hole in my pitch which I admitted to not have thought about, but agreed it was important to consider. They don't expect you to be perfect.. after all, you're applying to this course to learn about all that stuff! Also, when he asked me where I wanted to be in 10 years time, I told him I didn't know! But my point was that, I know the general area, but I wanted to go on the course to learn what I'm good at and what I enjoy.. I think a surprising amount of people reply "I want to be a famous movie director like spielberg" or whatever, and they're not realistic.

Anyway, good luck! Happy to answer any more questions if you have them

Yeah, I was so gutted when I looked! And I completely know what you mean about people applying for media courses because they 'want to go into the media.' What does that even mean?! Haha.

I had heard about that pitch thing, it sounds quite daunting! I've just had the acknowledgment email so far, so not letters or anything about interview yet. I think the interview is a great idea though, (despite being daunting,) as it separates the truly passionate from the vaguely interested. Did you pitch for a short film or a programme? I think I'd probably go for a short film, as they're what I'm used to making and am more interested in. That's reassuring that they dont base their whole judgment on final grades too, as I'm really worried about getting AAB I don't really know exactly where I want to end up either, but I know my interest has always lied in editing, so hopefully a video editor! I'm sure my mind would change during the course anyway.

Sorry I've realized I've just completely blabbed on. I'll get back to you again when they next contact me. I'm normally quite relaxed about these kind of things but its actually pretty nerve racking, probably because it's such an amazing course!
