Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012Question time:(Original post by Inactivity)
Unbelievable, got invited to interviews at Manchester and Birmingham today!
When did you send your application?
What subjects do you do?
What did you get at AS?
What are you predicted?
And well done

Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012I'm sure you'll be fine, they're supposed to be tough right?(Original post by shaos1993)
Just had a mock interview with a professor who was working in the chemical engineering department of cambridge. it was pretty tough, luckily it's not a real interview, but i begin to lose heart.
What kind of questions did they ask?

Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012
I heard they ask abstract questions like 'Is a Jaffa cake a cake?' at Oxbridge interviews =/ Apparently the answer has something to do with the VAT of cakes and biscuits etc. The questions for Chem Eng interviews would probs be more science-related though

Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012Pfft, no way. Engineering is definitely on the weaker departments of ucl. Having had that said, its still a very decent department. It may the weaker departments, but ucl is a worldclass uni(Original post by hispanofrançais)
Hey guys, What do you think of UCL Chemical engineering department? Do you think is it as respected as the social sciences department? -

Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012like how to separate co2 from other gases, i answered something about condensation and solubility, but the professor told me they are too expensive in terms of industry. then i stuck. and there were a few more questions like this, pretty hard for me.(Original post by zoeaw)

Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012Wahh? you don't need Further Maths lol They want 3 A-levels including normal Maths and Chemistry. Nice average you got there btw(Original post by hispanofrançais)
Do you have FMaths? x) cuz i dont and I really want to go to bath.. I have 91% average with physics, chem,; maths, economics and biology :/ and on their website they advise to take FMaths..:'( i will have to go for UCL..
Have you already submitted your application?

Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012Actually, im an EU student and therefore I do not do A levels but the European BAC (which is a bit more difficult) and at Bath's website they say this "Applicants should be taking 5 periods of Mathematics plus the Advanced Mathematics unit, giving a total of 8 periods. " I emailed them mainly saying that ive got Physics , Economics which are two mathematical subjects but havent received a response yet(Original post by Cath-ay)

I have applied to Cambridge (sst johns), Imperial, Edinburgh, Manchester and im still undecided between UCL/lufbra for my last choice, which was intended to be Bath
what about you?
-
Re: Chemical engineering application thread 2012Oh I see :/ well as they are saying that you 'should' be taking advanced maths, it doesn't automatically mean you wouldn't get an offer from them if you aren't. If you really want to go there, I suggest ringing them up sometime in the next week and getting a quick response from them, then you can decide from there.(Original post by hispanofrançais)

I applied to unis in South England, including UCL, due to personal preferences
and two of mine are for Biochemical engineering so I can't really help you a lot for your last choice. I'm sure your other uni choices would give you an offer though
