Yeah it's not particularly easy to find other people doing your course. I've found one doing Mathematics on here, and that's it.
About wristbands, is says on the mmu website that:

"There will also be a Union Hub at each campus throughout the whole week (17 – 21 Sept) where students can meet Welcome Week Reps, Union staff members, find out more about the Union services and buy all tickets and wristbands for social events."

Ah wicked, good to know. Can just see if flatmates are getting one and then go ahead with it or not.
