Naw, a 911 is cheaper for parts than a 944. There's plenty of specialists for the older stuff. You won't run one on the same budget as you would an austin mini, but they aren't too bad for parts. Even if you have to go to the main dealer, they knock off an awful lot for older cars and you'll also get 10% off if you're a member of the owners club.
If you think an aircooled is expensive, forget buying new stuff. Certainly wouldn't bother with a boxster. Rear main seal gone? That'll be dear to fix... Boxsters regularly blow up. The whole german reliability thing is a myth.
The blow up within the porsche is from the IMS failure, that going to cost dearly.
Problem isn't there within air-cooled.
And certainly air-cooled look more classy than newer ones.
