Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)Jzk for your reply(Original post by killa78)
I'd be a hypocrite if i told you not to take one.
But some scholars say it's alright in 'necessity.'
Mortgages count under that, and you could argue student loans are the same.
BUT.
Research it yourself.
Ameen. No I don't think so. I doubt anyone can lend me £9000.(Original post by muslimboi)
Walaykumsalaam
Subhanallah. What a sacrifice you're willing to take. Do you have any family members who would give you a loan and you could repay them later? Also Istikhara would be the best solution and consulting a local god fearing alim and taking mashwera
Allah make it easy for you
Different sheikhs say different things which makes makes which makes me even more confused. I heard my friend saying that she heard a sheikh say that we need a new generation of muslims who are educated doctors, lawyers etc and Allah knows best (but I'm thinking of going into to social sciences which makes me reconsider if I feel the need to go to uni). Furthermore my parents are expecting me to go to university. -
Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)What would you do with your degree? If you'd go to uni just for the sale of studying and you have no use for your degree then maybe it's not worth taking the loan. However, don't think cuz you're doing social sciences you're degree isn't as important as a going into medicine or law. Careers don't start and end with these two subjects and the world doesn't run with only lawyers an doctors! Muslims should be taking the best positions in all walks of lives.(Original post by Boqore)

Only by taking up such positions can we then bring changes to societies through setting examples. I guess a problem with the Muslim/Asian communities is the misconception that the only valuable degrees are ones like Law, Medicine-related, Accounting and Business degrees.
One amazing aspect of quite a lot of humanities degrees is that they allow you to see things from other people's perspectives. This can be very beneficial for Muslims. For example, Da'wah can be improved through having this kind of understanding of opposing views so that you can challenge them effectively and to not come across in a negative manner.
Just one thing I learnt from my degree

How's your application going?
Exam stress hit you yet? lol -
Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)To be honest, the point of a degree is to further yourself educationally as well as provide you with a means of supporting yourself in the future.(Original post by Qaz25)

It doesn't really matter which degree you do as long as its beneficial to you in the long run and to only justify certain degrees would be silly and pretty harsh. -
Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)
ill just post here as theres no point creating a whole new thread- just results in endless hate pages of crap tbh.
im basically going to see a sheikh about some issues i have with religeon- ive never spoken to someone of such high calibre before and my views on religeon arnt really good....
i was just wondering what etiquette is expected? i really hope not to sound/act disrespectful, as that would be wrong
thanks

Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)
Asalamu Alaykum brothers and sisters.
Quick question.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never prayed sunnah prayers for the obligatory Salat in the Masjid correct?
This then means he must've prayed them before he left his house and after he returns from the Masjid.
Ok so one time I finished praying the sunnah salat for Fajr and I was heading to the Masjid. Once I got in, I prayed the 2 rakat for entering the Masjid and sat down.
I sat down for a few minutes and then the adan was called after and people got up to pray. The iqama wasn't called. Once they prayed, the imam came to me and told me I should pray two rakat after the adan.
Now, what are these two rakats for exactly?
Apologies for it being so long. I'm slightly confused on the topic now. Say for example Sunnah salats before the actual salat, do I pray them before I leave my house?
Jaza'akumullah khairun. -

So from there, you understand you want answers so you're half way there
Basically just keep a civil tone and seem interested.
Keep an open mind and don't look for faults to the smallest discrepancies.
By all means ask questions but don't come across as someone purposely looking to find faults because you'll sound like you just don't want to learn.
Even if you were to lose your cool, he's probably used to it
On the flip side; I don't know which sheikh you're going to, but most of the newer, younger ones are actually pretty cool and laid back.
You'll be able to have a conversation with them fine

Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)Well I think you read the 2 sunnat namaaz for fajr twice that day?(Original post by Reform)

Jaza'akumullah khairun.
The sunnat for fajr is very important and I doubt everyone had read them before they left home (well I don't
) so the imam gave time for everyone else to read them before jamaat.
Also did you read your sunnat before the adaan for fajr? If fajr hadn't started you couldn't read them anyway?
About the house thing, from my personal experience, very few people read before leaving home. Everyone just reads at the mosque, but it's up to you. -

People get busy. Some believe they spend too much time on here so may get themselves banned in order to concentrate on more important things

Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)ahh thanks!! am just nervous about it as am an athiest now after months of confusion. and so i dont want to sound disrepectful as ive quite anti-islamic views on stuff, mixed with some guilt too(Original post by killa78)
