Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)
During his Caliphate, ‘Ali bin Abi Tâlib – Allah be pleased with him – saw some armor of his with a Christian. He decided to take the matter up legally, so he took the dispute to Shurayh (the Judge).
‘Ali said, “This is my armor, and I have not sold it nor given it away.” Shurayh (judge) said to the Christian, “What have you to say about what the Commander of the Believers claims?” The Christian replied, “It is my armor, although I do not regard the Commander of the Believers to be a liar.” Shurayh then turned to ‘Ali, “O Commander of the Believers, do you have any proof (of ownership)?” ‘Ali laughed and said, “Shurayh is correct, I have no proof.” So Shurayh judged that the armor was the Christian’s. The Christian took it and began to walk away but then returned. He proclaimed, “As for me, I testify that this is the judgment of the Prophets – the Commander of the Believers himself takes me to his judge and the judge rules against him! I bear witness that there is no deity deserving worship but Allâh and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allâh. By Allâh, the armor is yours O Commander of the Believers. I followed the army when you were on your way to the Battle of Siffîn and the armor came out of your equipment.” ‘Ali said, “If you have accepted Islâm the armor is yours.” And then he put him on his horse. Al-Sha’bi (the reporter of this incident) said, “I was later informed by those who saw this man that he fought the Khawârij (alongside ‘Ali) at the battle of Nahrawân.”

Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "During your sleep, Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of each of you, and he breathes the following words at each knot, 'The night is, long, so keep on sleeping,' If that person wakes up and celebrates the praises of Allah, then one knot is undone, and when he performs ablution the second knot is undone, and when he prays, all the knots are undone, and he gets up in the morning lively, otherwise he gets up dull and gloomy. Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)
Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallaam) said:
“Strive for what will benefit you,and seek the help of Allaah, and do not be incapacitated. And if something afflicts you, do not say: ‘If I had done such and such, such and such would have happened.’ But say: ‘This is the decree of Allaah, He does what He wills’. This is because “if” opens the act of Shaitan.”
[Muslim reported it]
In this hadith, the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallaam), exhorts us to join between two things: the first is to strive for useful things in all situations, and seek the help of Allaah, and not to yield and surrender ourselves to incapacity, because that is harmful negligence. The second is to surrender to Allaah over past events that have passed, and witness in them the decree of Allaah and His predestination.
We see that the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallaam), has delineated two categories of affairs: the first category is affairs that the slave has the ability to accomplish totally or partially, or those that he can avoid completely or at least lighten their burden. For this category, the slave should exert his utmost, and seek the help of his Deity. The second category is those affairs over which the slave has no power. For this, the slave should calm himself, and accept what came to him and surrender (to Allaah). There is no doubt that this is a principle complying with which is a definite means of achieving happiness and keeping worry and grief at bay. -
Re: The I-SOC (Islamic Society) (IV)
Salaam guys,
Hope everyone is well InshAllah. I wanted to ask something, recently weve had exams as most students are now and Alhumdulillah most have gone well. Obviously, I have had some which Ive been unsure about how well Ive done. But my freind did the same exam and was certain she'd failed. I reassured her and said not to worry and to make plentiful dua that she does well.
I was suprised to hear when she said that the `marks cant be changed now' etc.
Apparantly duas dont work like that, but I was pretty confused by this.
We as human are completely reliant on Allah SWT. We also shouldnt underestimate the power of Dua, and should make dua regardless in hope that we are blessed with Allah SWT's mercy.
Obviously there is etiquite to making dua, but surely if it is made with sincerity and a clean intention then its fine. We cant judge which dua will be accepted and which wont? So I dont know why she felt `helpless' in a sense, and felt that this sort of dua wouldnt be accepted?
I just tried to comfort her by tellng her she tried her best and everything is in Allah SWT's hands now and if it is whats best for you, InshaAllah youll be granted your dua.
What do you guys think?Last edited by neeloo; 20-06-2012 at 20:51. -

Yes I agree with you, maybe remind your friend sayings like 'Dua is the essence of worship' and 'Dua is the weapon of a believer'. Also explain that Dua is not to make the possible possible bit it's to make the impossible possible. Allah swt has khudrat (control) over everything he can change anything as he wishes. Because the exam has gone hard advise your friend to make more dua with firm conviction Allah will make them pass. There have been many people who have had tough exams where they thought I've failed but still passed. Allah has cOntrol Over the exam paper the exam results and the examiner marking
