Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueI haven't a clue - That email is all I got - Does anyone else here know the answer to that? And Lekha - is Mech Eng on the same day?(Original post by lekha2611)
Are there going to be any interviews your open day? I have been invited for the Mech Eng day
Or, do they decide if they are going to interview you, based on howyou came across on the open day? -
Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueThanks for the input. Does everyone that attends the open day get an offer?(Original post by MotsMan)
I think it was standard practice they decided the offer at the open day and then a few days later it was finalised on UCAS. I wouldn't say I'm particularly special as my grades certainly aren't the best. -
Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueI've just read up on their website - it seems like they interview everyone invited for a UCAS Open day. Thats for EEE though, not sure about mech.(Original post by lekha2611)

Re: University of Surrey inivitation issue
I wouldn't be sure that everyone will get an offer. The interview itself is rather informal just asking you about your current subjects, what your doing in them, what grades you feel that you could make. They also last year asked everyone 1 maths question, really simple stuff like mine was just to differentiate a simple equation.

Re: University of Surrey inivitation issue
Like others have said missing one day won't do any harm, the reason attendance is so closely linked to peformance is because often people with poor attendance are the types to not catch-up with the work.
Having these things on weekdays is often easier for the uni, and also for people with part-time jobs as it is much easier to get a day off college than it is to get a day off work, who may be less understanding and/or have problems arranging cover for you. -

Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueOhhh okay, so the interview won't be held on that day? I hope not! Maybe it's just to get to know the campus etc.(Original post by Xarren)

I'm sure the same applies for both engineering courses. -
Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueThe interviews are indeed held on the day.(Original post by lekha2611)

Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueThey won't be doing interviews at the weekend.(Original post by Xarren)
Yeah - Well I'm going to call them tomorrow, and ask if I could come in for an interview later on in the day or during a weekend. -
Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueIts them that should be sorry about the capitals. I've decided I'm most likely not attending the university largely based on the fact that they're damn right disrespectful in their use of caps lock.(Original post by lekha2611)

Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueNo I'm not, nevertheless I still think its inconsiderate.(Original post by JongKey)
Uhh it's only one day - don't be so uptight. You're not going to die or worse :O... fail, if you miss one day of school.
MIT, for example, agreed to interview me on a Friday evening. -
Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueReally? Shouldn't they tell us that first, so we can prepare?!(Original post by Xarren)
The interviews are indeed held on the day. -
Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueTheir web page has the details. Quite frankly, I doubt the interview matters. It's not exactly Oxford where you're going to get grilled on academic questions. And at the end of the day, at least in my experience, interview preparation is fuitile. Being myself works best for me.(Original post by lekha2611)

Re: University of Surrey inivitation issueyour applying to them so its under their terms when you go to an open day. All universities ask potential undergrads to come to open days on school days, get used to it(Original post by Xarren)
Indeed they're under no obligation, but at the same time I find this email rather disrespectful of my obligations.
I might just call them up and tell them that I have to be at school on the said day, and on every other school day this year, so if they do want to invite me, they'll have to do so on a weekend/school break.
the fact that your complaining about how a university isnt catering for your needs is kinda lame. Escpecially as its now harder to get into uni, you should be gratefull for the invite.
Seriously missing 1 day of school isnt going to be the difference between getting into uni and not getting in. And if it is such an issue then just catch up the work at the weekend?
you need to chill.....
