Hey, I think that's good advice - I actually feel quite pressurised when I'm at a prestigious place - I had an interview at Oxford, and let's just say I'm glad I didn't get a place...
Thanks, unfortunately i had to learn from experience, though I have to say the problem for me wasn't pressure but lack of it :s i only had 6 hours a week and 3 essays for the 4 months I was there. where have you ended up going in the end and congrats on the interview all the same.

I've been accepted for physics this year, what's is like studying it there? Would you recommend it?

Also what's the deal with the flexible study thing? Do I pick any other subject to study? or ones within my department?

    Which minors did you choose?

    Thanks.

That is why I wish I did physics.

Also because they're weird as hell, and so, I'd fit in
I'm sure you'd make a great physicist :ahee:

Yep I know a few people doing physics. They have quite a lot of work to do but it is physics. You get to pick 2 minors depending on your course. They can be anything, but sometimes you need prerequisites i.e. to do maths you may need an A in maths...

I'm doing Management Science and I picked Accounting and Finance, and Marketing as my two minors.

I've put Lancaster as my insurance for Physics. I'm pretty confident I'll meet my firm offer (need a low A in C4 and Us in the rest of my exams) but obviously there is still a chance of it going wrong, so do I need to apply for accommodation?

I have to firm by the 7th May - I think I'm gonna go for Lancaster! Would Durham and Lancaster be considered to have similar prestige, or would Durham be considered more prestigious? There isn't much between them in the league tables...
Durham is more prestigious. Higher entry standards and more targeted by employers.

thinking of going for Fylde because of its sporting repertoire! Also I think the rooms are all ensuite there, and it's supposed to be lively. No idea for my second choice though!

Physics doesn't have any options in first year, all three of the courses are taught by the physics department. Degree specific modules only come into effect in second term of second year for physics majors.

It's a damn good department with a good atmosphere.

The society has just set up a YouTube channel and we've got a few videos showing what kind of stuff we do as students and as a society. We're currently working on a series of "a day in the life of..." videos but here's one of my lecturers this year playing with liquid nitrogen:

Hi, I've just finished my first year at Lancs, and most freshers only get about 9hours of contact time (this is pretty much the same on most BA courses, maybe a little more on BScs?), and have only had 6 essays - 4X2,500 words and 2X1,000.

Most unis have smaller contact hours, because your degree is research led as opposed to specifically taught.

Just thought I'd tell you, in case you came here and thought you weren't getting enough work - I can guarantee that you will get enough work.

    p.s apply to Furness

I do straight Law, but my flatmate does Law with Crim. The course is good but he's always moaning about how he sometimes has to prioritize his crim work over his law work

You stay in the accommodation that your college provides, so if you're in Fylde for example (like me) you can either choose two types of ensuite accommodation (the cheaper rooms in George Fox, or the more expensive rooms in New Fylde).

Accommodation is completely separate to the course, which means you can be living with people from a ridiculous range of different courses (I have Physics/CompSci/Criminology/Advertising etc.)

Just keep an eye on your email
