Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants! Thanks, unfortunately i had to learn from experience, though I have to say the problem for me wasn't pressure but lack of it :s i only had 6 hours a week and 3 essays for the 4 months I was there. where have you ended up going in the end and congrats on the interview all the same.(Original post by george7378)
Hey, I think that's good advice - I actually feel quite pressurised when I'm at a prestigious place - I had an interview at Oxford, and let's just say I'm glad I didn't get a place...

Re: Whats your favourite thing about Lancaster Uni?
I've been accepted for physics this year, what's is like studying it there? Would you recommend it?
Also what's the deal with the flexible study thing? Do I pick any other subject to study? or ones within my department?
Which minors did you choose?
Thanks. -
Re: Whats your favourite thing about Lancaster Uni?I'm sure you'd make a great physicist(Original post by rosiemaphone)
That is why I wish I did physics.
Also because they're weird as hell, and so, I'd fit in

Re: Whats your favourite thing about Lancaster Uni?Yep I know a few people doing physics. They have quite a lot of work to do but it is physics. You get to pick 2 minors depending on your course. They can be anything, but sometimes you need prerequisites i.e. to do maths you may need an A in maths...(Original post by theandyguthrie)

I'm doing Management Science and I picked Accounting and Finance, and Marketing as my two minors. -

Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants!Durham is more prestigious. Higher entry standards and more targeted by employers.(Original post by george7378)
I have to firm by the 7th May - I think I'm gonna go for Lancaster! Would Durham and Lancaster be considered to have similar prestige, or would Durham be considered more prestigious? There isn't much between them in the league tables... -
Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants!thinking of going for Fylde because of its sporting repertoire! Also I think the rooms are all ensuite there, and it's supposed to be lively. No idea for my second choice though!(Original post by Catherinear)

Re: Whats your favourite thing about Lancaster Uni?Physics doesn't have any options in first year, all three of the courses are taught by the physics department. Degree specific modules only come into effect in second term of second year for physics majors.(Original post by theandyguthrie)

It's a damn good department with a good atmosphere.
The society has just set up a YouTube channel and we've got a few videos showing what kind of stuff we do as students and as a society. We're currently working on a series of "a day in the life of..." videos but here's one of my lecturers this year playing with liquid nitrogen:

Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants!Hi, I've just finished my first year at Lancs, and most freshers only get about 9hours of contact time (this is pretty much the same on most BA courses, maybe a little more on BScs?), and have only had 6 essays - 4X2,500 words and 2X1,000.(Original post by 04jharrison)

Most unis have smaller contact hours, because your degree is research led
as opposed to specifically taught.
Just thought I'd tell you, in case you came here and thought you weren't getting enough work - I can guarantee that you will get enough work.
p.s apply to Furness -
Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants!I have just firmed Law with Criminology(Original post by katrine)
Yeah!
That's a great choice!
Well, I haven't decided yet but I'd love to do Criminology or Law if it is possible
but I don't know what else...so, Im still thinking about it...
Let me ask u smthg, (maybe it's a stupid question haha
)
Do we have specific options on the subjects that we can choose?

Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants!I do straight Law, but my flatmate does Law with Crim. The course is good but he's always moaning about how he sometimes has to prioritize his crim work over his law work(Original post by Lexi2012)
am i?
do you study this? also does anyone know which is the best accomodxationa dn do you have to stay in certain ones too do with the course you picked? <3

You stay in the accommodation that your college provides, so if you're in Fylde for example (like me) you can either choose two types of ensuite accommodation (the cheaper rooms in George Fox, or the more expensive rooms in New Fylde). -
Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants!

so when you choose accomdation do you have to pick a college or does your college depend on yourt course applying real soon so I need to be sure what am doing lol! is law at lancaster good?
-
Re: Lancaster 2012 Applicants!Accommodation is completely separate to the course, which means you can be living with people from a ridiculous range of different courses (I have Physics/CompSci/Criminology/Advertising etc.)(Original post by Lexi2012)
