I met the requirements for Arch and Anth at UCL but have now been confronted with a dilemma . . . over the summer I have been thinking about my course choice; consequently I have decided that I want to study for BSc Anth rather than BA Arch and Anth. I meet the requirements for Anth (AAB) as I achieved A*ABB.

Just wondering if anyone on here has any idea about UCL's policy on course change (particularly the Arch dept.), especially between two such closely linked departments? Any help/ thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, congratulations to everyone!!
Try a quick email/call to the IoA

Hiya, from what I know it is certainly possible to switch but how easy this is will depend on how full the Anth course is. The first thing I would do is ring up Charlotte, she will be the first person able to either pass you on to the Anth people or advise you whichever way. Also bear in mind in your second and third years as a part of the Arch and Anth degree there is massive chance to specialise in Anth with the added bonus of being funded for fieldwork, which can be Anthropological! I'm sure you've thought this through, just thought I'd mention that! Best of luck either way! x

Thanks for the reply and advice! I have thoroughly thought through the decision, and will contact the IoA on Monday and enquire.

However, is there anyway that they could withdraw thier offer if they think that I am uncommitted or something? The last thing I want is to be rejected by anth after being taken off the arch and anth course before its even begun!! Is that a possible situation to end up in? Thanks

No, I don't think they can do that. A few people on my year changed course straight after the first week. Thinking about it, like you "firming" UCL is a legal agreement, I think it's same when they accept you after your results. Plus Idont think the IoA could reject you from the Anth dept, it's all controlled by UCL as the big boss! X

Hi guys,
congratulations on getting in! I'll be joing the IoA too and I need some information which I can't find anywhere on the IoA's website. I e-mailed them but there is still no answer.
Please can you tell me (if you know) when and where the department enrolment will be held? Is there one at all? I have received information only for the general UCL one.

You should receive a welcome pack with all the details on. Everyone has a specific enrolment time.
If you haven't got it by tomorrow, I'd ring up Charlotte at the IoA and let them know - hopefully they can confirm the details for you.

Anyone who's interested in looking at the reading list for the Archaeology BA/BSC course should have a look here :

There are links to Amazon for each book as well.
I'm applying to Arch and Anth for 2013 entry, and I read through this thread (cause I'm cooool), and I was just wondering whether the system for interviewing and stuff had changed at all since you guys did it? I have an interview/open day on the 12th, so I'm a little nervous! Thanks!!
