Harper Adams Interview
Hi, i've got an interview for Harper Adams in two weeks for a vet nursing course. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been for an interview there and the sort of things i am to expect?
I've got the work experience needed before the interview but most of my work experiences i am going to do over the next year before i start. But what sort of questions will they ask, and where is the best place to find out latest vet news and developments?
Also what's the best thing to wear, my last interview at Hartpury I wore smart but something i was comfortable in, is it the same again? Thankyou -
Re: Harper Adams Interview
I had an interview at Harper for Bioveterinary, it was quite relaxed and they just asked me questions about why I wanted to do the course, what work experience I'd done, I think they asked why I chose Harper as an option over some other places and also a few scientific questions/ questions on a topic to make sure I had the ability to do the course. One of them was about my opinions on farm welfare and battery hens, I forget the other I was asked as it was almost a year ago!
And smart, casual clothes will be the best, but coming to think of it, I just wore jeans and a smart top and I wasn't really underdressed.
Good luck with your interview, I hope it goes well

Re: Harper Adams Interview
Mine has now been moved because of the national strikes with the teachers being on the same day! They offered me a date in January which happens to when I have an exam so it's now on 1st Feb!

I'm not sure either on the latest news and technology. I'm just watching the news to see if anything related comes up, like the black rhino becoming extinct.(Original post by Jessybells1993)
Its tomorrow
will let you know how it went, not sure what to expect aughhh looking forward to it yet nervous as not to sure on latest news and technology's :/
How did it go?? What were the questions like?
What are you applying for? Vet nursing?(Original post by kmorris39)
My interviews not until Feb 8th next year!!! -
Re: Harper Adams InterviewGo here and then select from the drop down menus under entry requirements. But it seem like you will have to, I think Harper like to interview all subjects.(Original post by Qru)

Re: Harper Adams InterviewHi, our interviews are on the same day! Will probably see you there(Original post by kmorris39)
My interviews not until Feb 8th next year!!! i wish it was sooner the suspense waiting is frustrating!
Just wanted to ask how your prep, if you've started it, is coming along?
I'm going to read up on some research and have to really give everything a good ol' think! From what ppl tell me, you really need to know yourself as in what you want to do, why you want to do it and so on..
I'm so scared atm I'm not prepared at all! -
Re: Harper Adams Interview
OMG we may well see each other there!!! im just reading veterinary articles whenever i get the chance! but to be honest i have hardly been rushing to prepare! im doing lots of work experience at the moment so i'm finding myself with lots of stories i can tell them about! did a canine behavior course today at the rspca center where i volunteer which was FANTASTIC! (even if it did involve waking up at seven on a sunday) i really hope i get into harper though! its (hopefully!!!!) my first choice! have you visited yet? its lovley!!

Re: Harper Adams Interview
Hey there guys,
I am currently a first year student at Harper Adams studying BSc(Hons) in Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management. Harper interview all possible students, but it's nothing to be scared of.
For my interview last year, parents and students were split up and it consisted of students going on a small tour of the main campus by current students where you can ask as many questions as you like. (and seriously do! we don't mind!!!) Then I completed a small writing task with questions like 'why did you choose harper?' and 'why do you want to become a vet nurse?' - much like the stuff you've written in your personal statements. Then the last part was were we had one to one interviews with the course tutors. They just ask general questions about yourself - I had the dreaded 'what are your weaknesses?' but just act yourself, be smiling all the time and you can't go wrong. Be polite, say thank and please - this all builds up a good impression of you. Be passionate about your subject. Especially for veterinary nursing currently - the idea that VNs are now recognised as their own individual body and are now responsible for their actions is a big topic to talk about and it will impress the tutors that you know.
Dress code - difficult to say. It's not the most formal interviews I've had, but I still wore smart clothes (but be sensible as you will be walking around the campus). I think going in smart clothes gives the best impression of you straight away - but I did see others in casual wear too.
Regarding the university itself, it's small. There is only about 2000 people attending across the four years (a majority of which come from an agricultural background) I like the fact that it's small, as you recognise most people and it has more of a community atmosphere in my opinion.
The facilities for veterinary nursing consist of a veterinary nursing unit, which is modelled on a small vet practice. It has a prep room, a theatre, an xray room, a consult room and a lab and dispensary. Granted, it's nothing compared to the RVC's clinical skills suite, but it's always open, and the tutors are always available to help you with theory work, practical skills or anything else. We're the only vet nursing uni that teach large animal management, so you get to go out on the uni farm which the uni is built around (best bit!) and look and learn about the cows, sheep, pigs, horses and chickens.
The social life around harper is mental. I've never heard of anywhere
quite like harper. You definately haven't been anywhere until you've come to Harper.
Fresher's week was mad. There are lots of socials in first year, which mainly involve a lot of drinking and insanity. Newport town is the closest town to harper, and there is one club. There are quite a few pubs in newport that are mainly inhabited by harper on weds nights, and a mini bus from town into the uni and back. The harper student union bar
has a themed night every weds with live bands. The student union also puts on weekly comedy evenings or live acoustic nights, and have movie nights in the lounge
bar.
Can you tell that I love Harper??!!
Good luck with your interviews. I may even be the one showing you around as I am a student ambassador!!! -
Re: Harper Adams InterviewI know what you mean, as soon as I arrived I fell in love with the campus!(Original post by amethyst_1)

I'm applying to the same course that you're on, I just wondered what work experience you had and much you had? Also do you think that you could have a part time job at the same time as studying?
I can't wait for my interview in Feb, may just see you there then! -
Re: Harper Adams Interview
Ahh great Beth_M.
In the way of work experience I had only got 2 weeks in a veterinary practice before my interview, but before I joined in september 2011 I had to do another 2 weeks to bring it to the required 4 weeks in a veterinary practice. - please do check this though as it may have changed since my application. The more work experience you can get the better!
Other work I had done was also helpful when I applied. I personally had worked in retail (good for client communication and dealing with angry customers!!!
) and a riding stables. Don't forget to mention if you've done any work in kennels, catteries, rescue shelters etc... as these all count towards experience.
