The ads at the side of the homepage...which have now disappeared. IDs of takeover-left and takeover-right.

I assume this is something TSR will be running every now and again?
Ah yes. They get run on the odd occasion, the idea is not to have them too often though. I was slightly confused as we haven't done a release for a little while now. :p:

How do I recreate this on Android? I've replicated it as best I can (using a different IP address, of course) but have had no success.

    This is for Jelly Bean:

Go to Wifi options, long select the network you wish to modify, select modify network and tick the advanced options button.

Other iterations of Android won't be too different hopefully!

Settings are global in Gingerbread, no network specific ones. I know where to do it but it doesn't seem to work :/ unless I'm entering it wrong, the terms aren't exactly the same as the one's I've got on the mac. (which I copied from someone else and have no clue what they mean)

Have no idea how this has happened but I seem to have gotten a virus for the first time in several years

Windows Security Essentials has been disabled. It says the service cannot be started. I tried through services.msc

Windows Firewall is 'not using recommended settings' and won't allow me to use recommended settings. Gives error message Windows Firewall Cannot change some of your settings Error code 0x80070424

Malwarebytes found a trojan but I think the real problem must be a win32 rootkit virus.

I tried all microsoft-prescribed solutions to the 0x80070424 error with no luck.

    How can I remove it!?

After a lot of hassle - fixed. Got AVG back after something like that being able to completely disable all my microsoft security.

Try support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 if your computer will allow you to download/run it.

Didn't work when I tried that. What eventually worked was this: http://www.doitscared.com/1259/recov...rus-infection/

Try Connectify (google it). I think you can get a free 3-month PRO key if you're a student. Works very well for me.
Perfect. Well not perfect, but it works reasonably well.

System Preferences>>Sharing, there's the option to create a wireless connection.
    Wrong direction but thanks anyway

Do any of you know how to kill the Mac boot noise? It's possibly the most annoying ****ing noise ever and I want it gone.

I have used StartNinja but it seems to have stopped working. Any other ways?

All I can think of is holding the mute button while it starts up, although I'm sure there are much more convenient ways. Some of the previously available programs are no longer compatible with Lion/Mountain Lion.

StartNinja was working for me on ML, that's the thing. I've just installed LittleSnitch and Tuxera NTFS, I reckon one of them might have caused it? Idk.

It's ridiculous that you can't mute the noise without all this hassle I really don't understand.

You probably have done this, but have you checked for an update for the software?

I hadn't. There is no update.

But this was on the dev's site:
Note 2: The system start up chime is played through the internal speaker. If speakers or headphones are plugged in the system start up chime will still play.

So that's what it is. Headphones in = boot noise back. How odd.

Thanks for making me check that site :P

You could locate the audio file and replace it with an empty one/muted one? (obviously making a backup of the file first)

I guess a starting point might be http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1062929

On the subject of Mac sound...

Let's assume that you've got your headphones glued in to your headphone port on your Mac. Is there any way to push the sound out the internal speaker again?

Highly unlikely. Most line out sockets will be a hardware switch -- having something plugged in will short out the connection to the speaker, and redirect the signal to your headphones.

But the boot sound still happens, thus the speaker must be able to get signal from somewhere...
