Re: Has anyone who has applied to oxford uni got a reply yet...Well, of course not. It's going to be another three weeks or so until you can expect to hear about interviews.(Original post by hannah2012)
I applied to read Law at Pembroke in late September and have had generic replies from both the University and subsequently Pembroke, and also about the PPHs, but no reply yet regarding interviews....!!

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIThank God it's not just me.(Original post by Speedy03)
Ditto. Well sort of. Need to get out of the habit of leaving things so late like...
And rejection post-interview has the added advantage of being pretty much on Christmas, so you hopefully be able to get over it pretty fast...
Think I'd rather be rejected post-interview. In my mind at least, they're interested enough to meet you, rather than just looking at your paper application and saying 'definitely not good enough'. Does that make sense? Post-interview it's more about not really suiting their style of teaching rather than being under-qualified/totally unsuitable.
Also, ditto getting over it more quickly. Christmas is Eggs Benedict time, and just thinking about that makes me happier.
That being said, the further you get, the more pitying people are when you're rejected. I hate people feeling sorry for me, or going, 'You tried your hardest' etc... I know they're just being kind but it really bugs me. /innermisanthrope -
Re: Has anyone who has applied to oxford uni got a reply yet...It will most likely say in your email from the college that you won't hear from them regarding interviews until about 7 days before the date you'd be expected to arrive.(Original post by hannah2012)

The exact interview dates will depend on your subject and these can be found on the Oxford website here: http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/under...timetable.html -
Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIYeah, this. If you are rejected post-interview it says "you're good, but not quite what we're looking for".(Original post by Legendary-A-Sonic)

Though I'm not sure which is worse:(Original post by Legendary-A-Sonic)

- Certain people fussing because you didn't get in because "you're really clever, you should have got it"
- Other people fussing because "wow, you must be really clever if you got into oxford!"

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIISt John's has 500 Days of Summer in their DVD collection
If I got in... everyone would be(Original post by fluteflute)
Yeah, this. If you are rejected post-interview it says "you're good, but not quite what we're looking for".

then *faint*... considering I haven't told anyone in the school I even applied for Oxford (except one of my friends, accidentally). I think my teachers would fall over in shock then a new school wing would be built in my name...
People from my school have gone to ivy league, but I haven't heard of anyone who ended up attending a UK uni, much less oxbridge -

Haha, does Oxford have a reputation in Canada? Or would your school just go "Oxford? What's that?" -
Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIMy birthday falls in the interview period so pre-interview rejection would be incredibly depressing as it would involve sitting at home when I could be in Oxford...(Original post by Speedy03)

Birthday spoiler much? -
Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIAt least we're not applying to Cambridge, the worst thing about being pooled at Cambridge is that it means you're Cambridge standard but they just don't have enough places.(Original post by fluteflute)

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIYeah! And you might have to go back for more interviews... which drags the whole thing out further!(Original post by Grenville)

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIII think the worst part is that it disrupts January exams. I know my C3, C4 and Economics revision wouldn't be as effective if I had the worry of being in the pool.(Original post by fluteflute)

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIMark two; like 2.0, or part 2.
YES! They also have an art collection (apparently)! I was just stalking their JCR page a few days ago.(Original post by fluteflute)
St John's has a DVD collection?
http://sjcjcr.wordpress.com/dvd/
My sociology/formerly psychology teacher wrote it. I just told her I was applying to UK unis and she didn't ask further, so I didn't bother to elaborate. Only my german teacher asked me specifically which unis, and I told her UCL (which she knew about), then abruptly changed the subject.(Original post by fluteflute)
Who wrote your reference?
Oh Greg...(Original post by fluteflute)
Haha, does Oxford have a reputation in Canada? Or would your school just go "Oxford? What's that?"
Of course Oxford has a reputation in Canada. Oxbridge is internationally renowned, after all, and Canada's a pretty developed first-world country
I guess no one really considers going across the pond (there are only ~200 Canadian applicants/a, also because the Blythe scholarship, i.e. all expenses paid to... Cambridge
).
Also I'm not one of the most obviously academic people in my school, so no one would suspect me of applying and so on.
ETA: to elaborate... in Canada, Oxford is more associated with reputation than an actual university where people go. For example, Oxford is associated with the printing press (dictionaries et al.), the (old, british, generally male) alumni who appear in videos played in class, etc. No one actually considers it as a place for post-secondary education, or at least it seems beyond reach. On the other hand, for some reason Ivy League unis (colleges, whatever) are most perceivably 'within reach'... Granted maybe not Harvard, but the other colleges like Brown, Cornell, etc.Last edited by punctuation; 29-10-2011 at 16:47. -

(we love Cambridge really...)

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIyessss, they're a great band(Original post by mr.november)
it's a National song.
"I won't f*** us over, I'm Mr. November."
Barack Obama had it sung on his campaign trail regularly. -
Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIGood shout, hadn't actually thought of that! I suppose the last one, since I already get the (nonsensical, if you ask me) 'Oh, you've applied to Oxford, you must be sooo clever!' a fair bit already; I'm used to it by now.(Original post by fluteflute)

And I guess getting into Oxford outweighs any fussing!
Just re-read, I sound like such a whiner. I'm quite a cheerful person, promise!
What I'm most worried about is only one of us at school getting in. It's a small school and three of us are applying (for different subjects and colleges) and the likelihood of all of us getting in are slim... I just know people will be awkward about it if only one/two of us get in!
I wouldn't mind at all if they got in and I didn't, fair enough, but I can tell already people will be funny about it.
I'm not the only one who feels like that, right?

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2012 Entry MKIIWow! The JCR website looks a lot better than it did last time I looked. Time for me to do some stalking too...(Original post by punctuation)

Out of curiosity, what made you think about applying to Oxford?
Ah that's interesting(Original post by punctuation)
