See if your university runs pshycology experiments. At UEA you can sign up to a mailing list and they email you when they need volunteers. They sometimes pay up to £10 for a few hours of your time.

I'm from a middle-class family so I get a small amount of grant and loan, but my parents are hard up themselves and won't help me out and it just about covers the rent once coupled with my maximum overdraft. I've spoken to my university about this and they are awarding me a bursary, but it won't come through till December and there is nothing they can do to hurry it up.

I have about £80 to live off for the next six weeks (I am living in halls so my rent and bills are already paid for.) I can just about stick to that budget if I only spend on food, but it's going to mean no socialising or anything else.

I've tried applying for jobs ever since I got here but I haven't even had an interview so far, most places won't even look at university students as I have quite a full schedule sometimes.

Is there any really fast way of making even just a fiver here and there that's legit? Online surveys, anything?

The best place to look for jobs is within the university itself, in the union for example.

Also, have you considered asking your uni for a cheaper room, if that's possible?
Donate semen. Sell a kidney. Beg in the streets. Steal.
Can you sing or play a musical instrument?

You could busk somewhere busy.

Or dance if you could find a busker who would split his earnings with you.
Omfw snap I have only 80 left till my cash comes through and I'm buggered if it doesn't come in 2 weeks I'ma die of hunger in this bitch lol

£80 is enough to live on for 6 weeks.
Well, unless you consider Starbucks a necessity and only shop at M&S.

have you applied for the access to learning fund? it's funds from the gov. for students in financial hardship esp. those with disabilities, with kids, from low-income families and people who would have to drop out of uni if they couldn't get any help money-wise. you apply for it through your uni, i've just applied myself cause i'm so skint atm. if that's not the thing you've already applied for, do it.

i thought you were generally only eligible for a uni bursary if you were from a low income family. having got basically squat from student loans i could have done with a bursary, but was ineligible due to getting squat from the slc. what fab logic.

anyway....if you can't get a job, i suggest ebay. ..although if you're setting up a new account you won't get the money released from paypal for 21 days, so that might not be a good idea.

what a great post i just made.
do-able... you can live of 5-6 pounds a week if your smart... (know when the shops are massivly reducing the food... shoping about half an hour before closing time most days, can get you: apples (bag of 6) 25p, bags of salad for 15p, yoghurts for 30p, vedge (whatever is going) for around 10-50p...) + bulk buy pasta, rice etc... you can walk out of the supermarket, with 3-4 bags of shopping easily...

if you hit a number of shops, you can usually find a few luxuries aswell... (got a whole cheesecake from tescos yesterday, for 60p (usually like 4pounds) a whole birthday cake, usually 11pounds for 1.80 the other week...
so its not just living on the basics...

maybe its just the area I live in, but id imagine this is the same for most cities...

if you want to make some quick money, find out what phd students need participants for their research, they can often pay 5-20pounds for a few hours of your time
,,,, great

^ and end up with your hoohar plastered all over the internet.
you can do surveys either online or in person. look for marketing surveys in your local area, they pay per hour. you can also look for jobs on gumtree.com or work online writing articles, or doing surveys. www.google.com and search for 'hubs get paid to write articles' or 'UK surveys get paid' . you could also make a facebook page and offer assignment services or online help for students or even english, spanish or whatever language you speak for foreign students.

you could do background for movies, modelling, work at tesco or some other shop, club promotions....

if you are so desperate you can work at some restaurant offer to do the washing up or work as a barwoman, or even you can go to www.direct.gov.uk and look for financial solutions or help (government loan, career development loan etc..) or you can be a nanny / or for elderly people.

or you can make a catalogue and post it at the laundrette, leave your telephone number and suggest to schedule to do their laundry?!

you could print some 'leaflets' and offer to do computer repair or website design.

you could get support from I.T forums online or you can contact me and i will be happy to tell you how to fix things for free , even if you got no idea about stuff.

or you could ask a friend or flatmate to lend you some money and return it when you can. but be honest with them to avoid disappointment.

For the longer term (i wouldn't suggest you to do that now since you are short of money and that would be a risk!) you could sell beauty products and earn a comission. You need to join this company and become a beauty consultant, it is free of charge.

you can do that at : http://gb.oriflame.com/about-oriflame/index.jhtml (look for the join button) . you can call them up and request some more info. you would then be sent a catalogue and you can then show it to your friends or go from door to door and sell your products, get their names, orderid, date.

your friends would see something they like in the catalogue and pay you in advance, and then you will be sent an invoice from the company, where you will have to pay the company for the products. the more you sell, the more commission you earn.. samples may be provided by the company.

you can also earn a commission on this http://www.meds4all.co.uk/affiliates.html

The careers group at your university or student union and student support group may be able to also assist you.

http://www.freelancer.com/search/logo+design/ (use your paint, gimp, adobe dreamweaver skills to create a logo) you can bid for projects , once you register for an account and update your profile, qualifications (say you are a designer) and some people pay a few hundreds for their company logo.

If you need my help please , feel free to contact me anytime. I will do my best to help you

wish you luck

I had to survive on NINETEEN PENCE for almost three weeks because my loan took so long to arrive (I only got it five days ago).
Psh... And you're having a hard time figuring out how to survive on 80 quid for six weeks?
This should be a lesson to you. Situations like these [being broke] make you realise your true necessities in terms of expenditure. If you're gonna spend it all on alcohol and nights out then shame on you, but just remember, this is coming from the Bear Grylls of university survival here

That made me smile, had a mental image of you prowling the university grounds spearing cats and eating textbooks.
Freeganism!
Raid the reductions fridge near closing time if you can't handle freeganism, other than that wait it out until you can get your hands on some money. You can socialise, just don't drink (or stick to the cheapest of cheap predrink) £80 for 6 weeks is fine, I've got £50 until my next batch of money comes through and I don't know when that's going to be. Fun times!

Oh how I remember that one. I always applied for my student loan well in advance of the deadline but one year it just didn't arrive. I had spent the summer working at the university in a role so poorly paid that it just about covered accom/food for that period so when it came to going back to university I had very little saved. Landlords don't give a **** and mine wouldn't give me the keys to my room without a months rent in his hands so I slept on a couch whilst waiting for my loan. Fortunately there's a wealth of free stuff in London and my mum packed food into my bags when I went down but sleeping on a couch, having no money to go out, not having a room to unpack into and eating a very poor selection of food because you have ~£0 is pretty ****.

SLC need to sort themselves out so much. Every year thousands of people who applied by the deadline don't get their money.

Matched betting is a fairly quick and risk free to make some quick money, but you need to understand the theory, stick to the big bookies, and start small with only an £80 float. I made £1000 profit in three months starting with £90.

On a slightly less lucrative note, I made £10 a time mowing a family friend's lawn this summer. Bit late now I guess, but if you're back home at any point it may be worth a shot.

Also, you can borrow from close friends. It's not fair if they are hard up themselves, or if you ask for a large amount, but if you asked five people to loan you a twenty with interest at the rate of inflation, you'd more than double your money. If people do say yes, do it all formally, and write/sign an IOU with a payment date etc.
