    AQA INFO3 ICT Exam January 26th 2012!
    Hey guys..

Tried looking for a thread for this exam but couldn't find one, I know it's still quite a while away but never too early with discussion.

I'm a private candidate so self-teaching for this exam. If anyone has a link to the pre-release material (if it's already published not sure if it is) can you post the link please.

How's everyone revising for the exam?

    INFO3 Pre Release Useful Tips!!!
I decided to do INFO 3 in January as opposed to June, why? Because I can and because I enjoy ICT

Not many people choose ICT A level for some reason, but for those of us who have, here is my contribution to helping us ace the exam!

The January 2012 Pre Release material should be available on the AQA website OR your teacher should have a copy. Either way, it’s the 12th of January now and I assume everybody has had a good old look at it.

The paper tends to be based on the Pre Release material! At least the first part of it anyway, so it shouldn’t be taken lightly at all. There will most certainly be questions on “Training and Supporting Users” because the company Eurotradeon is finding problems with its staff as they have no experience! The insert mentions “Modern training methods” so hint, hint:

I would assume that modern training methods would include CBT, or Computer Based Training, and that’s where there would be software which guides you through learning how to use a software of some sort. Furthermore, Online Video Conferencing is another useful training method. You talk to a real life person who could be located miles away but you get an online one-one lesson! You could also use a standard online chat which is less interactive but still a modern training facility.

Next up, laws and regulations. The Electronic Commerce Regulations 2012 isn’t mentioned in the INFO3 syllabus but it would do no harm to read about it. Basically, the act covers contracts between the electronic communications between client and consumers. I assume that the exam will ask about “Other” acts such as data protection act, copyrights, designs and patents act, computer misuse act, freedom of information act, health and safety at work act. Make sure you know about them.

There is without a doubt, going to be a question about Chief Information Officer. It will probably be a big question with 10+ marks probably, asking “Explain the characteristics of a CIO to hire” and obviously you would need to include things like, a lot of ICT experience, good communication skills, making decisions about procurement, good with budgeting, responsible for technological direction of organisation, and many more! Remember to explain in detail.

The pre release mention Outsourcing being scrapped, it might still ask you about Outsourcing. Remember it is hiring an external company to carry out a specific job for your company. Eurotradeon wants to start using Cloud Computing! Think of it as the iCloud by Apple! In fact, think of it as a cloud, in the sky, EVERYTHING related to the company is inside there, and wherever you are – as long as you have an internet connection, you can access your files! There are a lot of advantages to this. Cloud Computing is the way forward.

Lastly, you could see a visual organisational structure which is hierarchical. David Bowen is at the strategic level making the big decisions. The people under him are at the Tactical level, they make decisions to do with their departments.
I hope that helped! Good luck and please, please, if you reckon there are more guesses as to what the questions will entail based on the Pre Release, please share.

    Good luck to all.

    - Very useful tips, my teacher has mentioned a few of these topics as well (such as outsourcing and learning more about the role of the CIO) but it's really helpful to have them written down here. Thanks, and good luck next week!

Hi this question may sound stupid but is Eurotradeon a company who sells ict systems to online traders who buy and sell stocks and shares or traders who buy and sell goods online. My teacher reckons it's stocks and shares, but i'm not sure how this relates to the EC Directive regs.....

Hi, was just wondering the last page where it shows the structure of the training department, is that a matrix structure? i'm not so clear on the organisational structures.

Have a look at page 6 of this document: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.g.../file14640.pdf

Those are the three sections to the EC directive. Eurotradeon is a stock trading business. Their business relates to the EC directive because they do a activity listed on the link above.

especially for the 20 marker, aka the essay question
The 20 marker (or could be even more) is usually my favourite question! There are no strict marks to obtain, you just need to talk well about what it is they ask you. Bring quotes, figures, conclusions, interpolations, extrapolations, critisisms. Basically, you need to truly think about the question and answer it from all perspectives bearing in mind that the language and grammar you use would play a significant role on the mark you will be awarded.

For the last 20 marker question, I usually do this at the very start of the paper. The invigilator says, "You may start" and I flick straight to the last question and TIME MYSELF. TIMING IS CRUICAL, even though there are 2 hours available :P Oh, planning helps me A LOT, and chances are, it will help you too. Scribble down the things you want to talk about, in fact, consider it an essay, with start, middle and an end, I would also be ticking of the things I planned to write, when I write them!

Like I mentioned in the above post, I assume the paper will have many questions on training, but I could be wrong! That's why it's vital to be prepared for anything.

All I know for certain, is that I will not stop writing for the full one hundred and twenty minutes available

    NEED THAT A-STAR :danceboy:
