Yeah, my bad. I didn't notice the 'apply' section on the main accommodation page. I was forever looking on the undergrad pages for it, and it just wasn't there.

It's an odd system... It generalises most of the options. So in order to apply for Trinity, I suppose I just have to apply for 'en suite self catered' instead? I'm not sure about putting down 5 options, there are only 3 which I would seriously consider and only 2 which I'd be absolutely happy with.

Oh well, we shall see how it goes. Most people don't get their fourth or fifth options anyway.

Trinity is a Unite accomodation, so not university owned. I think you then need to go through a separate application system along with the university one, but I don't really know the details. Check out the Unite website.

Just had a look... Callice Court, Paradise Place and Sherbourne House are run by Unite... But thanks for the recommendation to look at that. My mum has good ties with Unite so I might be able to wing some discounts here or there with them.

Are there any other unions to be aware of for accommodation?

Nope. Your main, and best, choices are university owned ones like Singer which you can just select on the accomodation form, or university managed Unite properties like Trinity, which you apply for separately. I believe they also own Raglan. What choices have you gone for?

Well as I say, the options it gives you on the accomodation application don't relate directly to the building for all of them.

Ideally I wanted Trinity, then St Margaret's Road, then Singer Hall. But on the application I could only put it down as 'self catered en suite', 'Houses', 'Singer Hall' and because it asked for 5 choices, I put down Priory and Quadrant as my final two.

Many places guarantee first or second choice anyway, and I have 3 firm favourites, so I should be in luck.

Hello all,

I have just completed 2nd year of Biomedical Science at Coventry University and have lived in private accommodation for two years.

Is anyone interested in living in a rented apartment/house?

It's a long story, I ended up in a sort of argument with one or two of the people I was living with. I would still do sharing again, I think it would be unlikely that the same situation would arise. I stayed in Singer and they're pretty good at stopping loud noises, you can complain easy enough. The kitchen and bathroom was always pretty tidy, because the cleaners are furious if you make a mess and they'll refuse to clean your flat. I have never met anyone who stayed in Study Inn, which is a bit weird as I've met people from pretty much all other accomodations.

I will defiantly consider the info you gave me thanks. Do the flats get cleaned daily? Can you get your own fridge in the room?

In Singer, our flats were cleaned every other day except for the weekend, and the bins taken out three days a week. So an example- monday, wednesday, friday, bins and cleaning, the next week monday, wednesday, friday bins, tuesday and thursday cleaning. They don't clean bedrooms and you are expected to keep things relatively tidy on your own, they're there to do the basics. Our cleaner refused to do the sink a couple of times because we left a lot of washing up in it or beside it.

You can have your own fridge if you really want one, although none of my flat did.

EDIT: Also, if the bin was filling up on the weekend, you're meant to empty it or the cleaners get annoyed if you leave bags of rubbish for them.

I've got an unconditional offer from Coventry. I've applied for accommodation, with Singer Hall being my first choice.
When will I hear from them? The application status now says 'awaiting allocation'.
Thanks

Hey!

Hiya! I got a conditional and firmed it- I'll be doing Illustration and Animation come September if I get what I need from my foundation :3

I was wondering what sort of things you do/have done on the course already (and possibly any tips/things to make sure I do or don't do?!) as well as how you've found Singer Hall (It's my first choice) so far!...and I was wondering how is it for jobs? Is it recommended to find one quickly or is it better to not have one, etc etc?

Sorry if it's a lot to ask-! I'm quite excited for this and I'm all bug eyed and don't know what to expect!

Hi I wanted to find out more about the shared accommodation eg Trinity point and others. How did you find the sharing with other people? Would you recommend sharing above getting a studio flat eg Callice court or study inn. I plan on doing a Bsc at COU and want good accommodation. Its probably easier to make friends staying in shared accommodation.

Well, i was always curious about study inn as it did look nice from the outside, but on the other hand sharing a accomodation can have its good points and bad, the good points are you get to make some new friends and socialise more, the bad is that not all nights will be peaceful, you will get some nights that are noisy, people playing music loud or pure on banging and slamming of doors etc but then again you will get that in all student accomodations, its one of those things where "if you cant beat them, join them" or just sit in your room and invest in some ear plugs or headphones and listern to music. As bad as that sounds, its a experience you should have  it could be different for you! I dont think you should personally take my experience to heart as it can be very different for others, my first year was stressfull, espically at night time when you have your flatmates screaming to music in the kitchen, oh and the mess 0.0 im abit of a tidy person and cant stand a messy kitchen so that bugged me when the lads didnt clean there stuff... ¬¬ but overall the people that i lived with were all nice and mature, so i was lucky ^^

As for callice court, you will love it, its very safe and secure, they have a social room with a few entertainment pieces in there... (not sure what exactly as i didnt go into that bit as i was only there to visit a mate), plus having your own bathroom is handy and trinity point and raglan are the exact same

My most important advice would be if you wanna go shared, get a en-suite, its soooo worth it 100%. I didnt have one as i went to singer but it would of been a luxury. I know about it as because i often visited my boyfriend during our first year who goes preston university and he had a en-suite and i was soooo jealous :frown:

Hope that helps ^^

Hey!

noooo its nice to meet another person doing the same as me  well where do i start :L

Your first year, you will be learning the basics, for a start they get you reading more and going library, just so they dont get you being relient on the internet all the time. Most projects will involve researching and looking for the right information, you will get to learn how to find your ideas and develop them. At the start of your year, your main lecture Francis whos irish, will tell you to invest in a little A6 blank paged journal/ sketchbook to jot all your ideas in and to carry it on you where ever you go, so invest in one of those before you start ^^. Theres a particular module that will be annoying to do, its called pdp (personal development planning) and basically its like a diary where you talk about your work, what you did in class, what helped you, inspirations, goals and achievements etc... you have to spend like 20mins on it every week.. its a nightmare if you leave it last minute and not start it when you should, so another big advice would be dont leave it, keep on top of it!!!!

As for singer halls, if you get given it, you will be fine for room space!! its a big room, with a long desk, and plenty of room on the floor to work, i had no problems with that ^^

When you mean jobs... do you mean work anywhere in coventry or do you mean work exsperience with design agencys etc ??? i never went for job in my first year as i was lucky to have full loans, bursary and scholarship, so i didnt need a job. Its totally up to you but you will have alot of free time, as you only have class 2 days a week, it will help with the funding and future planning for example when you come to getting a house share for your 2nd year.

Any other questions your more than welcome to message me on my profile ^^
Any chance that anyone else here has applied for Aviation Management?

That makes my decision much easier I'm defiantly in the head space of Callice, Reglan and study inn. I'm coming up for the open day I will try organise to see first hand the accommodation type after I've gone through some of the course material I want to do a Bsc Aviation Management. Otherwise the uni and the area sound good to me I'm very keen on starting.
