Hi guys,
I got accepted into BA Photography, I am most certainly going to choose Coventry as my Firm, But before I do, I want to know what life is like outside the university, In terms of job opportunities, entertainment ect...
I just want to make sure that as well as getting a good degree, that I have a secure surrounding.
Cheers.
i chose Coventry as my firm for photography!
i hear it's a pretty awesome place, and i've been told that getting a job isn't too difficult

I'm going into my second year in October and came to Cov through clearing with BDD when the requirements were ABB (I think!) so I guess there'd be some?
I don't know if it'll be the same as you guys as I came through clearing though? Might give you an idea anyways

Hey!
noooo its nice to meet another person doing the same as me
well where do i start :L
Your first year, you will be learning the basics, for a start they get you reading more and going library, just so they dont get you being relient on the internet all the time. Most projects will involve researching and looking for the right information, you will get to learn how to find your ideas and develop them. At the start of your year, your main lecture Francis whos irish, will tell you to invest in a little A6 blank paged journal/ sketchbook to jot all your ideas in and to carry it on you where ever you go, so invest in one of those before you start ^^. Theres a particular module that will be annoying to do, its called pdp (personal development planning) and basically its like a diary where you talk about your work, what you did in class, what helped you, inspirations, goals and achievements etc... you have to spend like 20mins on it every week.. its a nightmare if you leave it last minute and not start it when you should, so another big advice would be dont leave it, keep on top of it!!!!
As for singer halls, if you get given it, you will be fine for room space!! its a big room, with a long desk, and plenty of room on the floor to work, i had no problems with that ^^
When you mean jobs... do you mean work anywhere in coventry or do you mean work exsperience with design agencys etc ??? i never went for job in my first year as i was lucky to have full loans, bursary and scholarship, so i didnt need a job. Its totally up to you but you will have alot of free time, as you only have class 2 days a week, it will help with the funding and future planning for example when you come to getting a house share for your 2nd year.
Any other questions your more than welcome to message me on my profile ^^
I'm starting the Illustration and graphic design course in september but am so scared Ill be useless at it! I haven't done a foundation year and I did the international baccalaureate instead of a-levels so I don't feel prepared when it comes to knowing or experimenting with different art processes or whatever. How many people do a foundation at Coventry before going on to doing the art courses? I'm staying at home as well to save money so I'm worried I might feel out of the loop! Does many people stay at home? Sorry for bombarding you with questions haha, just really nervous! Thanks for reading! -

I'll be doing 'Disaster Management & Emergency Planning' starting end of September. Looking to stay at Trinity Point or Singer Hall, has anyone been able to confirm accommodation yet? Look forward to meeting some of you hopefully

Haha dont worry about all the questions, im happy to answer them all ^^. You should have no worries if you came from a foundation course, its a great boost when you join uni, infact theres quite a few that have done a foundation. The work wont be much different to what you do now, but if you dont know how to approach a project, they will teach you ^^ they teach you the skills and tricks to being sucessful and how you can approach those projects.
Well i do have a few friends that are living at home during university and a few didnt get too much involved, but all i can say is get involved with freshers!!! You make soooo many friends during those 2 weeks, i think its starts on the 22nd of september, you will notice all the other students hanging out flyers and free pizza near the cathedral and the student's union (The Hub). Another way to get involved and making friends would be the societys (clubs etc) there is a massive selection from sports, to lanagages, to anime club, cheerleading (if thats what your into lol), mountain climbing... etc i joined the snowsports last year and it was a great exsperience, i got to learn how to snowboard!!!
I hope that helps, if you have more questions than ask away
