Re: Cambridge Interview RejectionThanks. Yeah I will email them. I'm applying for history. I've already seen two people have been invited to history interviews at Fitzwilliam and my application is weaker than most (weaker than yours) so I think it's very likely I've been rejected. Just hoping for the best anyway(Original post by Catholic_Fox)
Well I got tired of waiting so I figured out I might aswell just send an email and ask them whats going on. So I would tell you to go for it. I guess the worst thing they can do is not to answer at all. Or maybe I got rejected because of that. Hahahaha. Btw, which subject are you applying for? And hope you get the interview!!
Does anyone know if Cambridge has ever done any mistakes regarding qualifications from other countries? Because the Finnish system can be a tad confusing sometimes..

Re: Cambridge Interview Rejection(Original post by raweed)
Hey I applied to queens college for engineering and got rejected for even an interview
AS:
MATHS - A
COMPUTING - A
ELECTRONICS - A
PHYSICS - B (5 UMS from an A)
I am carrying on all 4 at A2, my predicted are A*(Electronics), A, A, A.
My UMS for maths show A*
My GCSE's where average at 4A*'s 4A's 1B and a couple of NVQ's equivalent to 3 extra GCSE's
Anyone have any ideas why I would be rejected for even an interview? I wasn't keeping my hopes high for an offer but would have thought I'd at least get an interview.
Engineering is all about Physics and what they look at is UMS where many of their applicants will have >90UMS. Plus they would like to see further maths and mechanics modules and would also looks at UMS for maths. Your other 2 subjects are not the sort of subjects they respect highly. I'm afraid all of this combined may have resulted in you not getting an interview

Re: Cambridge Interview Rejection
my results were really similar to yours and i also got rejected from doing maths at churchill without an interview, my advice would to not worry about it and think about what benefits you have got from applying e.g. better reference, ucas in earlier. hope the advice helps

Re: Cambridge Interview RejectionWow that's really strange! Maybe someone couldn't make it to the interview so they are opening up their slot?(Original post by Catholic_Fox)
Whoaaa! Got an email from Cambridge saying that they are reconsider my application now! Didn't think this could be possible! Getting excited again...

Re: Cambridge Interview Rejection
I've never applied to Cambridge and am looking at this thread just because I don't have much to do right now, but I find it very strange that a significant number of internationals are rejected prior to interviews...
Actually, I was in the same situation last year when I was rejected at pre-interview stage from EMEL (Spanish and Arabic) at Merton College, Oxford. Although they said they'd to send feedback, I've never received anything (nor has my referee, I think). I'm convinced the reason was my essays (the first time in my life I was writing any
), because I had and was predicted stellar grades, a good reference, a plausible PS... See, I'm not trying to sound boastful, I just can't understand what one actually has to do to secure an interview.
Edit: I read a recent Keble admissions general feedback on their website and they said they rejected language applicants for various reasons but essays. Mmm, this doesn't make any sense at all now.
But don't fear, this rejection doesn't mean you are bad

Re: Cambridge Interview Rejection
Got my rejection letter today for Engineering at Jesus. Came as a huge shock as I had an interview last year and now have:
Maths - A*
FM - B, one mark short
Physics - A*
Eco - A
Had an awesome school reference, and what I thought was an awesome PS..
Still need to get in touch and find out what went wrong, pretty gutted right now though. -

Maybe there was a high number of applicants with predictions/achieved grades of A/A* in further maths.

This shows the spread of applicants and successes for Engineering. I think they would have been looking for UMS>90% in FM.
The average successful candidate last year averaged 2.6A* which means most people who did double maths probably had 3A* (to balance out the Arts candidates who more often only do 3 A2).
Must be a shock though if you got an interview last year. The standard for getting an interview in Engineering does seem to be high this year. -
Re: Cambridge Interview RejectionYeah I'd say at this stage that's probably a good idea. In fact I'd probably ring so you get a quick response! Good luck(Original post by sweet77)
should i email my college to ask if i have an interview or not?

Re: Cambridge Interview Rejectionthis is amazing- i would think you may have been right in questioning their initial understanding of the finnish system if this is the case...(Original post by Catholic_Fox)

Re: Cambridge Interview RejectionSo I tell myself.
The letter was dated Nov 18th--I was kept in futile suspense for 8 days!
They didn't allow me to show them my true ability and potential by denying the chance to do the cambridge law test and interview, and rejected me on superficial grounds (whatever that might have been). In a sense, that's better than being rejected after they've seen it all, I guess.
Cried for an hour after reading the letter, but well, I will go to another good uni where I'll be happy! -
Re: Cambridge Interview RejectionI couldn't wait for the letter so I emailed them 3 days ago and got rejected. This morning a letter came with the exact same words as in the email... I didn't cry but I wish I could(Original post by shirley0y)
