Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester Uni
I agree, the round table bit is what scares me most! Haven't seen the questions yet so can't comment on that really - I guess have an idea about all of it but also know depth about a few bits? I think its also used to see how you interact, so I don't think the whole assessment will be actual content?
If you miraculously find short book please let me know!!

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester Uni
Lol! I think you're right. I'm going to know about them generally, but focus on one or two things specifically. I just hope i can learn everything so that i remember it! Even with notes i'm a bit worried!
Oh well, i will just have to see how it goes on the day!
I haven't done much on the interview questions yet just had a quick look at them today in my lunch break at school so going to go over them properly tomorrow at work.
When you get your letter if you need any help just let me know! Part of being a teacher is collaboration and working together so might as well get the ball rolling on that lol!

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester Uni
Yea. I have part time job twice a week, which unfortuantely isn't in a school, but then i volunteer twice a week in a school. If you can try and get some experience in a school, even if its just a week or a couple of days because it really helps to see first hand what its like and it also gives you experiences to draw on which can help in the interview.
I know its hard trying to juggle uni work too. I still remember how stressful my last year of uni was. I wanted to do an MA, but third year put me off lol.

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester UniWell done!!!!! Happy for you!!! Wish I could hear the same too, its been 2 weeks, so I guess maybe it'll be 3 weeks till i hear like yours - fingers crossed!(Original post by Daftdonkey)

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester Uni
Im going to send mine off today, once GTTR plays ball with me
My first choice is nottingham cos it would be easier moneywise if i do it here, but uni of leicester is my second choice cos i graduated from DMU and rather do it in leicester then anywhere else if i dont get in at Notts

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester Uni
Hi all,
I also have an interview for Upper Primary at Leicester on 5th December, yet still to receive any information from them directly. When I phoned the department this morning, I was informed that a pack would be sent within the next few days, which leaves little time for discussion preparation.
I was wondering whether anybody who has received the topics would be kind enough to post them?
Many thanks & all the best for your interview. -

Mine is also this day, and I don't have the topics yet either :/
See you there!

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester UniHiya, I've got an interview on Wednesday and just wondered about how you say people didn't back experience up etc, are we supposed to reference papers and websites for most of it? Because a fair bit of the stuff I've prepared is just things I've observed in schools, would it be enough to say a few details about what you saw?(Original post by h4zelh)
When I did my interview I took in cue cards with spider diagrams on as I could expand on them. They are discussions so its not good to have notes you read off as prose. One girl didn't get on as she talked generally or only about her experience but did not back it up. When we talked about our questions we included stuff like the pupil premium, SEN green paper (that was due out when I did mine), and any other papers.
Good luck to everyone on this thread

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester Uni
Hope this reply isnt too late, it only just told me there was another post.
I talked about the pupil premium and how that will effect children. Have a look at the SEN code of practice and the legislation that relates to your experience.
Ensure you mention that the national curriculum is changing next year. .
OMG have just found my cue cards.
Have a look at a summary of the white paper- The importance of teaching.
Also Every Child Matters
National Curriculum states ' to promote pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepare all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
Out of 80,000 children on free school meals only 40 got into Oxbridge and they are half as likely to get GCSEs
If you have the one about the next most important curriculum area, this year then prepare a couple e.g. science (forms part of baccaleareat, employers look at it, prepares for life) ICT, for- essential for business, e-safety is important(safeguarding), againt- most youngsters learn at home (disadvantage to FSM?) can be embedded into other subjects.
I hope this helps. Make sure you used cue cards, I had mind maps on mine. If you try and do it from memory you will forget things. The day interview day is really relaxed and I met 3 people there who are my friends on the course now.
Goodluck. If you have further questions feel free to pm me. -

but this will be useful when I reapply next year. Yeah I did use cue cards to look at which was helpful... I ended up with the educational issue so I talked about key stage 2 testing as I figured everyone would talk about academies. Interview was okay but I wasn't sure, so gutted though.

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester UniHey!! Don't worry!! I applied at Leicester and had an interview at the start of Dec 2011, was unsuccessful, was absolutely gutted for ages, applied to Derby, had an interview at the start of Jan, and got in!!! Why not try applying elsewhere rather than waiting till next year?(Original post by honey_monster)

Re: PGCE Primary at Leicester UniIt's just I really don't want to spend another £4000 on living costs, my application has been sent to Brighton (where I'm currently at uni) but tbh i kind of fancy the idea of a gap year now. I just wanted to do the course while living at home to save money and stress, I'm just sick of moving in and out of uni housing and I wouldn't be living the normal student life I'm used to having at Brighton, I'd barely see my friends etc. I'm planning to volunteer in a school two days a week and get a like 10 hour normal part time job and keep my casual catering jobs on the side, then go on a working holiday as a children's club rep(Original post by tigergrowl)

In a way, I'm kind of looking forward to a break from education, been in it since we were 4 after all! Sorry to hear about your rejection too
But that's great about Derby, are you commuting or living there then?
