    OCR Economics F585 January 2012
    Hi

I wanted to start a thread on the pre release material for F585 2012 seeing as it has now been released.

A place to discuss potential questions and themes of the exam

I've already gone through it with my tutor due to the good timing and will also be going through it at school, as I'm sure everyone else will be doing.

    Good luck everyone

It's been a while since you posted and nobody's replied yet...maybe you should check out MarkedbyTeachers.com, TSR's sister site. It has the largest library of essays in the UK.

They've got over 181,000+ coursework, essays, homeworks etc.. all written by GCSE, A Level, University and IB students across all topics. You get access either by publishing some of your own work, or paying £4.99 for a month's access. Both ways give you unlimited access to all of the essays.

All their documents are submitted to Turnitin anti-plagiarism software, so it can't be misused, and the site's used by hundreds of thousands of UK teachers and students.

What's more, you can take a look around the site and preview the work absolutely free. Click here to find out more...

We got the stimulus paper just over a week ago and have been going through it like crazy. My teacher says the main topics are, as mentioned, development, trade imbalances, currencies etc. Just need that 60-page handout he makes every year! BTW, the essay is most likely to be on trade imbalances or currencies - can't argue with his judgement seeing as he's predicted they essay titles for the past few papers almost word-for-word

Also, quick question on the short 'discuss' questions; to get the 8 marks, how best should you structure it? At AS, we were taught to put it 2 arguments in favour and 2 against, with a relevant diagram and 2 'meaty' evaluative comments for the full 18 marks, but I'm not so sure now. Help?

thanks for the replies. I don't think this paper has an 8 marker or 18 marker but i was taught the same structure as you.
You're so lucky! sounds like you have a great teacher. Does he use the tutor2u toolkit or does he write the handout himself?

Yep, something like that - he is an absolute legend. One of the best teachers I've probably ever had; the way he teaches it is just effortless - he says it's because he's been studying the subject for over 50 years. I genuinely feel for the first years who'll miss out on his lessons next year!

I'm looking at an 8 marker now (Discuss the effectiveness of a national road pricing system...) I know all of the relevant arguments and possible evaluative comments, but it's just the structure that's sort of bugging me; once I've got to grips with it, I think I'll be okay. BTW, he writes the handout himself :yy:

I'll try my very best to do so, but can't really make any promises!

As for potential questions I'll definitely post them on here

EDIT: BTW, when did the global syllabus change? I've only got 3 past papers to look through and I'm still waiting for my teachers to give me a copy of the June paper.

My teacher still hasn't finished writing up the handout; in the meantime, has anyone identified any possible questions? We should start to draw up a list of any potential questions :holmes:

I am doing this out of school too, and have just emailed my old Economics teacher to see if he can get hold of this years tutor2u toolkit. He did last year - as well as making a very comprehensive booklet of notes to go with it (and predicting word-for-word last years question). If I have any luck I will post it on this thread. In the meantime question predictions and anyone else's booklets would be amazing...

Oh and also if you guys haven't already found him this guy does incredible short lectures:

    Hey there student room.

I am just really wondering if anyone can be so kind to help me, by sending me this toolkit made by tutor2u. I really need to take this exam outside of school and i have no one to turn to. I need to teach myself the syllabus so i would be so thankful if anyone could be so kind. If you do send it to me then i am willing to help you in any means possible as i am knowledgeable in the subject. I am just scared for this exam as i have no one teaching me around the case study.

    Thank you and kind Regards

    Have a good day
