Re: Manchester Uni primary PGCE interview
Hi,
I only submitted my application for Primary PGCE to Manchester about a month ago and I found out after 2 weeks that I've got an interview on the 28th June...Looking forward to the interview! Anybody else in the same situation? Also, any tips for the interview process? I've really no idea what to expect with questions and the tests.
Greatly appreciated!!

Re: Manchester Uni primary PGCE interview
Science test is not used as part of the process of picking people, so don't focus too much on that one.
The maths test is fine, but i'd just go over a bit of basic gcse maths for it, to make sure your prepared. The english test is also fine, make sure your clear of what nouns, pronouns etc. are and are able to write clearly and concisely with good spelling.
Presentation is ok, they make you feel really at ease, and the questions for me wern't too hard, they were quite natural questions based on what I had written in my personal statement. Just be yourself, be smily, polite, natural and you should be fine.
Good luck anyway! Tell us how you get on

Manchester Uni primary PGCE interview
Hello,
I have an interview on the 24th and I'm just wondering if anyone could give me advice?
I've sent an email asking what the interview is on, but had an automated email, which wasn't very helpful. For the people who have already had the interview could you let me know what the presentation was on? please
also what kind of questions were you asked??

Re: Manchester Uni primary PGCE interview
Hi Penelly, the interview was ok, just obvious questions really about what can you bring to teaching etc. Presentation is on teacher of your choice, how they impressed you and how you'd use those skills. English test was easy, Maths was hard def GCSE level, science was an audit only. You should get an email re what to prepare. Good luck!

Re: Manchester Uni primary PGCE interview
Hi
I also have an interview at this uni next week on tuesday, im panicking so much, only found out yesterday so gives me a week to prepare. Im most worried about the presentation, Im awful at them and my legs go to jelly. I have no idea what to talk about I need to think of something quickly!!
Also Maths test really worried about that, I only applied for this course last week through clearing and Im worried they'll ask my why I applied so late,
Can anyone give any more tips or anything for this? I cant understand what would take up a whole day of 9-4.30pm, unless there are other things involved??
Also I dont have an academic reference as I left uni over 4 years ago, so I have had an employer write mine, anyone else in this position?
Please help, stressing out like mad!! -
Re: Manchester Uni primary PGCE interview
Hi,
I considering applying through clearing ( am v. Late). I have been looking at Manchester Uni which is obviously a really good institution, but I keep reading what a good teacher training uni Manchester Met is, did you consider the Met as well?
Good luck with your interview! -
Re: Manchester Uni primary PGCE interview
Hi!
i have this interview on Friday and the question for the presentation is the same. Did any of you use visual aids in your presentation or did you just talk with notes? I was thinking about getting 5 or 6 A3 cards and writing a little bit on each to structure the presentation because we can't use Powerpoint. does this seem along the correct lines?
I have also been advised to read the Cambridge Report with regards to current issues in education, did anyone else do this and find it useful?
Finally, is anybody else attending the interview on Friday 14th December?
Thanks,
Josie. -

I've also got my my interview on Friday! To answer your question about the presentation, in Natalie's email it's says that,
"The presentation is designed to assess your communication skills and will form part of the selection process. It will not be possible for us to provide access to audio-visual equipment or an OHP to assist you in this presentation."
I think that if they wanted us to use visual aids, PowerPoint etc. facilities would have been made available. I think they just want to see us be ourselves, without 'hiding behind' technology.
If it helps, I'm planning on taking a few small notecards into the presentation and focus on smiling, making eye contact and delivering my presentation clearly.
Good luck on Friday, maybe see you there!
