Re: Download 2012Opinion does not equal reality, funny enough.(Original post by salad_fingers)
Can't believe Metallica are still going, they are so rubbish. -
Re: Download 2012
This year's lineup is great. I even like Chase and Status (saw em live at 02 wireless last year) so Prodigy & Chase & Status is gunna be mental.

Gutted Machine Head is on at the same time so it'll need to be a judgement call.
Missed Trivium in Dec so please don't clash with anything too decent!
Andy Copping's done a great job imo though I'm curious as to what Soni has up their sleeves.

Re: Download 2012I'm not sure that MH are on at the same time, the first five bands announced last night were Chase and Status, Biffy Clyro, Soundgarden, Tenacious D and You Me AT Six. That announcement was 3 sub headliners (I assume in the correct spots on the poster), plus 1 second stage headliner and 1 third stage headliner. I think It is safe to assume D are the second stage headliner, and YM@6 the third stage headliner (I'll do some digging in a bit to see if I can find out the correct days).(Original post by I<3LAMP)

The 9 bands announced later had no set positions (at least before the announcement, didn't hear the actual announcement), so I think MH will be third down on main stage (top 3 main stage bands usually have their logo on the poster IIRC). Positions on the poster don't mean much at this early stage, it's just to keep it looking symmetrical/neat.
No doubt I can find some more info digging through Andy's Twitter and the Download Forums.
As above
Edit:
So before C&S I guess, seems a bit of an odd combination that evening.(Original post by Download Festival Facebook)
Machine Head update for ya - they're actually playing the MAIN STAGE on Friday, and will be getting a full hour slotLast edited by hobo06; 17-01-2012 at 16:06. -
Re: Download 2012Ugh so you reckon Tenacious D are second stage? Damn it! No doubt it will clash with 'tallica :-((Original post by hobo06)

If Machine Head are indeed on the main stage as Download facebook said last night, then that is an extremely weird line-up for the Friday night! -
Re: Download 2012Their facebook page announced they are playing main stage on Friday-win! They were originally supposed to be second stage headlining but they changed their mind as blatantly that would be ****e-DL is a metal fest after all.(Original post by hobo06)

I actually see Andy on a day to day basis though I'm not allowed to divulge info out of turn. Lame eh? Gotta wait for the announcements like everyone else.

Metaaaal----> and then drum & bass/dubstep.
Still it'll be good though there will be a lot of movement around the arenas!Last edited by I<3LAMP; 17-01-2012 at 16:15. -
Re: Download 2012
MH were supposed to be headlining second up against The Prodigy, but it seems plans changed quite late (hence Download facebook announcing them as second stage headliner initially, correcting it to main stage shortly after. Apparently they asked to play main, and Andy has something special still lined up for Friday second stage.
Also, no fear on D and Metallica clash:
YM@6 are headlining second stage against Metallica. No problems there(Original post by AC)
Just so everyone is 100% clear. On the Saturday main stage it goes - 1 Metallica, 2 Biffy Clyro. 3 Tenacious D. Tenacious D are in slot 3!

Re: Download 2012
I've literally just seen that on Twitter

Thank the lord! No question about which stage I'll be at on Saturday night haha. Friday is a very weird combination, it'll be good to see who he's got planned for the earlier bands as metal would be an odd build up to Chase and Status/Prodigy
Oh well, Metallica and Tenacious D, that's me sorted! -
Re: Download 2012
Worried about Friday's second stage headliner though. Sounds like there are still a couple of big names to come. Especially when Andy is making comments like this:
And to bump MH up from second stage headliner to third down on main, there has got to be something big there. How can that be when I've got two festival headliners playing as subs?? The budget is massive and there's plenty left believe me! -
Re: Download 2012Metallica yes, Prodigy, not so much, especially for what is mostly a rock/metal festival. Black Sabbath, certainly not. Same with Soundgarden, who are big enough to headline.(Original post by Pride)
ooo Soundgarden...
but is it me, or do the same bands always headline this festival...? -
Re: Download 2012
Updated OP with a list of which bands are playing which day/stage, from Andy's Twitter responses.
I'll continue to update if I find out any more.
Edit: I realised August Burns Red was the only band I had found no info on, so I've tweeted Andy hoping to at least get a day for them.
I'll make up some sort of spreadsheet tomorrow or something to make the positions a bit clearer.Last edited by hobo06; 17-01-2012 at 17:32. -
Re: Download 2012That's one of the most ridiculous annoyances I've ever heard. Fair enough if the three headliners were questionable in size, but they are not at all. Download has 5 headliner sized bands on the line up, obviously they can't all headline. The fact that a band as big as Soundgarden don't have such a massive ego and are happy to accept a sub-headline spot is even more positive. Opening for Black Sabbath is the most perfect spot for them on the line up.(Original post by fnm)
Mixed feelings about DL. So, so pleased about soundgarden, but then again annoyed they're not headlining. They're definitely big enough, they've always done well over here.
So I may just see them if they tour. IDK.
I think Rammstein will be heading to Sonisphere again this year, given that Download already has 5 headline sized bands. There's not much left for Sonisphere(Original post by outlaw-torn)
A further second stage headliner could possibly be Rammstein? They are on tour at the moment. I'd love that even though I'm seeing them in March
