Would never do this. Why would you let someone monitor your speed, what time you drive at etc?

Not even that much cheaper than others, if that.
It is for me. I got a quote of £4000 on GoCompare and £2000 on Co Op with the same details.

And I can't even see myself driving past 11.

If you ring them up can you do me a favour and ask if you're aloud to replace the sterro but keep the speakers the same?
You can change the stereo as long as you don't change the speakers. When you get your quote online and you get to the bit where is asks if you have an audio modification there is a little 'help' button on the right that defines what they class as an audio mod. It says:

'Your sound system has been modified if you have enhanced the manufacturers system by fitting new speaker, a new amplifier or a sub woofer box'

This says that they only class it as a modification if you change or add any after market speakers. The head unit is OK to change.

Cheaper for me, by a mile compare £950 with £2500.

Only regret is I can't put my foot down if I fancy giving it some (not that my car would exactly race away but still!)

Anyone got any tips on how to get the insurance down? I'm doing a 1.1 Saxo with two named drivers and myself as the named driver and I'm getting £158 with an initial deposit of about £600.
Don't put yourself as the named driver unless there's someone going to be driving it more than you, it's insurance fronting. They don't look kindly on this kind of thing

Sorry I meant me as the main driver. I was tempted to put myself as the named and my mum as the main because I really can't see how they'd prove you're fronting but I thought I'd stay within the law haha

By the way, how is it for you? Is it that much of a strain on how you drive? I think it's the only way to build some no claims and not break the law without breaking the bank for me!

It's not actually that bad. In some ways, it's improved my driving because you have to anticipate what's going to happen more than you would without a smart box

It can be a pain if you do motorway driving as you can't put your foot down when you're overtaking someone, and you can feel people getting p**sed off behind you if you're sat doing 30mph on a 30 limit road.

I do accelerate at a pretty quick pace and I'm still getting 'very good' as a score, overall I'm on like 4.8/5 which means I'll probably get a discount at the 90 day review, I suppose I'll find out in 15 days or so

If anything it keeps my parents off my back about driving like a tosser, especially since one's a traffic cop who's seen so many people our age wrapped around trees. I'd say, if it's half of what you're being quoted without a box, go for it

It's more than half in some situations! I think I'm gonna have to go for it when I get a permanent contract at work.

With the discounts, does it then permanently go down to that number and you get a discount again after another 90 days? Or does it go back to the quoted price after you're discounted and then you can get another next time?

I haven't reached a point where I get a discount yet (I've only had the policy 30 days) but as far as I'm aware if you're paying monthly and you're owed a discount then from the 90th day onwards the monthly direct debit drops.
I'm not sure if you get some money back for safer driving before then
90 days later, if your driving is still consistently good then the direct debit stays at that discounted level. (this is what a friend has said, he was quoted £850, £200 deposit paying £65 a month which dropped to £50 a month)

The speakers are faulty and need replacing though :/

As long as they're the same size and black they shouldn't be able to tell they've been replaced...

I drive literally every weekend late into the morning after clubbing etc...

I received a discount of $90 and now paying $30 a month (on my playbook no pound sign soz)

For those of you who like putting your foot down....

It's not all too bad tbh, I drive a 1.8L and I worried about the smallest burst of acceleration when I took out the policy

3 months in and I pretty much put my foot down quite often and get scores of around 2.5 to 3

Overall My score is still 5 so Im still happy!

I also tend to do around 25 in a 20 and still get 5's all round

It says they use a weighted average, I think they're more concerned about people speeding and driving after 11pm.

Which is good for me because I rarely do either

Re: Cooperative Young Drivers Insurance - Is any1 insured by them?
Can they distinguish between who's driving how many miles?
If I set me to do 0-1000, and parents to 4000-5000, or higher, then it costs about £1200.
If I set me to do 3000-4000, and parents to do 0-1000 or 2000-3000, then it costs over £2000.

In reality, I'll be doing most mileage, probably close to 3000-4000, with parents doing under 1000.
Can they tell who's doing how many miles, or do they just add them up and check how many the car's doing overall?
Anyone got experiences with them complaining about this, or have people done this and had no problems?

    Thanks,
    Liam.

£1177 for a Golf 1.6. Put 3 other drivers on, not that they'll be driving. Excellent. I can buy the Golf for £900 and insurance for £1177. First time car will actually be decent for 2 grand more or less!

Has anyone here actually had their premium go up due to poor/reckless driving?

I had my policy a month now the guy that came to install the box wasn't really bothered about mods I think he was just in a rush aha (he forgot to take pictures I had to do it myself and upload to drivers dashboard and also he had a check sheet what he was supposed to check and he just ticked it all apparently my car has central locking, sunroof, electric windows but apart from that everything went smoothly) and my scores are good I like to floor it to the speed limit and brake quite hard (I tried one day driving like a granny and I could get my braking and acceleration up to 4.5) and my scores are 2.5 - 3 but everything else is 5 so my overall score is 5 and also sometimes when my speed creeps up on me and I don't realise I don't think there too fussed about it because i was doing 40 in a 30 for a good half a minuet before I realised the speed limit dropped and my score for that day was 4.6, so to anyone thinking of buying this policy i would say go for it (Y) will get back to you all to let you know if I get a discount .

How does the discount scheme work? My police started feb 24th. Checked my bank account and they automatically took my monthly charge. Shouldn't it be lower? Or will i get cash back? IF so, anyone know when? Thanks

WARNING TO ANYONE GETTING THE CO OP YOUNG DRIVERS INSURANCE!

I purchased the co op young drivers insurance a month and half ago just a few days after passing (I am currently 17). I paid £1500 for year before discount. I felt great with the price and my friend has a Corsa with the same insurance and it all went fine.

    The Problem!
I own a Toyota Corolla 2001 1.4L and the guy came to fit the box. It looked like he had to work quite hard to try and take the car apart to fix the box but I thought that was normal. He then finished and gave me his phone to sign that the work was done. I then went to go out later that day and noticed that the airbag warning light was on! I thought that it could be something to do with some cars having a switch that turns off the passenger airbag for use when you have child seats.

Checking the manual it said that I should take it to a garage to get it checked and didn't mention about any switch to turn the passenger airbag back on. I contacted the Co Op insurance to check and they recon that the airbag light was on before the install. I found this very strange as the installer didn't mention it to me in any way. He didn't need to but I would image a normal person would warn a clearly young, new driver that the airbag, A SAFETY DEVICE, that it was not working.

I ended up taking the car to my local garage for diagnostics to be run on the car and it came back as a short in the airbag "squib" circuit. They told me that this would most likely be damaged by someone moving or damaging the circuit board. I contacted the Co Op again and they still didn't want anything to do about it. They also claimed that they send me the photo of the dashboard before the install but I didn't get the image until later.

I got my friend to ring instead and got through to a manager for the Co Op insurance and ended up sending the image which didn't show a time stamp at all. In fact the manual also states the car will show the airbag light for 6-8 secs when the car is first started.

After many phone calls and emails they sent out a "senior" engineer to take a look at the car. I had to go to college so I left the car with someone to give them the keys and keep an eye. They inspected the car and checked the install. I am awaiting their report but walked a few miles to drive the car back home. When I got to the car and started it both the Speedo and Rev meter didn't respond. The car's radiator fans were also running on full like it wasn't able to talk to the engine properly.

I await to see what they say tomorrow to my very very angry phone call. I am tempted to not allow one of their so called "engineers" work on my car and get it done by my local trusty garage.

My warning to you all is please please please take photos with a time stamp BEFORE the install and keep your eye on the engineer at all times. Remember that the car is yours and they don't want anything to do with it if they break it. Test the car fully before they go or you sign anything and get their name!

I am now in the awkward position of having to cancel my policy and then not being able to afford insurance on anything else. I will have to end up selling my car and loose out a lot of money. I also understand that the co op are not directly responsible as they use another company to install the smart box and they also produce the box.

I will keep you all updated but please be very WARNING TO ANYONE GETTING THE CO OP YOUNG DRIVERS INSURANCE!
