I see, thanks. Do you find that you are able to specialize in a particular area of interest? Do you intend to practice as a Solicitor when you finish? By the way, how on earth do you find time to come on here when you are in the process of studying towards 2 modules???

Well, specialising is restricted because of the 4 compulsory modules, but I'm taking the company and employment law courses as they interest me and are areas I'd be interested to work in. I'd like to go on to qualify, but the market is a nightmare at the moment so it's either that or a grad scheme.
What can I say, I'm a dreadful procrastinator.. Oh, and I'm also doing B120 at the moment so it's actually 3 modules
Phew! You're also a gluten for punishment alwawhisp Yes, the state of the market is worrying. My brother-in-law is doing his grad studies at Oxford and there is immense competition for pupillage, but then I think it has never been easy to become a barrister. I certainly wont be going down that route.

Yep, got an assignment due today and another tomorrow.. Poor me
The barrister route is even worse than the solicitor route. I'm not massively bothered about qualifying anymore, sure, I'd like to do it, but there's plenty of other jobs I'd also like to do. I would recommend though that even now, even at the early stages of your degree, you start working on getting legal work experience. Informal or formal, doesn't matter - if you want to qualify, you have to do it
^ Ooh good luck, you're extremely brave taking on 3 modules at once
Brave/crazy 2 of them finish in April thankfully, so I can concentrate on W301. I just wanted to get an extra CertHE before they got rid of them really

Thanks Alawhisp, I will work on doing that. It would have to be paid as there is enough friction between my husband and I with me doing the degree, if I did unpaid work experience as well I think he'd divorce me
Re referencing, I've never referenced a thing in my life so I have no idea if I did it right or not, but on eTMA01 I put:
The Open University (2011) W100 Assessment Guide Part 1 February 2012 Presentation, Section 10 eTMA01, W100 Rules, Rights and Justice, Milton Keynes, The Open University, p25-28
Well guys, I've been faced with a dilemma. Originally this module was going to act as an introduction to the LLB which I will be studying with University of London. Due to complications with student finance I was forced to register with them much earlier than expected. It is fortunate in the respect that it means I get a whopping 6 months head start on my first three subjects which are criminal law, common law and contract law. It is also unfortunate because it will mean having to withdraw from W100. Further, I have an agreement with OUSBA so I will still be liable to pay the full fee.
Initially I thought I could continue with W100 and commence studies on the LLB in September despite registering early, however the points from the OU are worth nothing with UoL so in the 6 months it takes me to complete W100, I could have had a decent head start with UoL.
I hate the idea of losing so much money but I think, I hope it will have been worth it all in the end. So, I'm withdrawing from W100 guys. Just want to wish you all the best of luck with your studies and future careers.
E-mailed my tutor this morning, apparently we could wait three weeks for our assignment marks to be given back to us... Makes my guess at around March 16th.

I once received a marked assignment back on the same day that I needed to hand in the next one.. The good thing is that you do get to complain about that if it happens repeatedly, and it's taken into account
Eventually you get used to it, nowadays I hand in an assignment and then completely forget about it until I get the e-mail saying it's been marked
GAH I am so far behind!!! Single parenthood, work, sick kid, divorce, contact battle, house sale, hassles with Atilla The Mum and home study degree DO NOT WORK WELL TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!
Got my score back, 31, not exactly impressed with that to be honest, oh well I'll try harder on the next one
I wouldn't overly worry if you get a duff first mark for your very first TMA with the OU. There will be some who didn't even submit theirs and have started with a big fat 0% . Courses where the focus is solely on written work are always marked more harshly because the tutor can have a go at your language skills and writing style etc... The tutor's comments are important though, as they give you an idea what is being looked for in TMAs. So note them closely and you should see a big improvement next time. Email the tutor as wlel if you're still unclear. By the end of the course, you'll look back at your early TMAs and wonder how you managed to produce such relatively poor work.
