Mine is March 7th! Someone I know had a similar thing but not for Geography at UCL. It consisted of tours etc and then a seminar. After the seminar they had a discussion about what they learnt. Anybody else going on the 7th?

That doesn't sound too scary, thanks for calming my nerves
Anyone that went to the selection open day today, how did you find it? And what did you have to do?

Yeah I had mine today! It was fine, pretty informal to be honest.
My 'mock tutorial' was just a lil talk about Yemen with this professor, it wasn't scary at all. He just asked me some questions about the map what it showed. It was k- hope that makes you feel better!

Sorry! Please read above post - my quote appears to have not worked...x

Most of the lads were in suits or some looked like they were going on DofE (the environmental geographer look?).
Some of the girls were in nice jeans and dress tops kinda thing. I wore high waisted cotton trousers and a plain black shirt. It was pretty informal to be honest :P
Prep wise I just read current affairs cos I was Economics and Geography I read the Economist, but the Guardian and blogs too. Nothing too major!
Haven't heard back yet tho, they said within a month

Please tell me there were people not wearing suits lol, I don't think I even fit in to mine any more! And not really sure how I'm going to prepare. Probably just hope for the best ha

Smart casual will be perfectly fine and expected (e.g. nice jeans and a shirt, anything but trainers)
Hi, I'm new on TSR and am applying for Economics and Geography at UCL.

Is anybody here attending the session on the 22nd of February? Also, I haven't heard back from them (either) since I sent back my confirmation via email. Is this normal?

Finally, to everyone who has already attended a session - what did the 'group discussion' involve? Was it more of an interview or simply a discussion regarding a given resource? Was there any time for one-on-one questioning?

Thank you.

I'm going on that day too! Are you going with a parent? And I haven't heard anything back so I think it might be normal.

Great  And yes I'm bringing a parent, but only because they want to come. What have you been doing to prepare? I'm still a bit confused about whether an interview is included or not...

if you read previous posts in this thread, apparently there is no interview (thank goodness) and the only scrutiny we'll be under is when we have a mock tutorial.. The rest of the day will be talks apparently

I went to one in January and most of the day was them trying to sell the university to us, the mock tutorial was fair easy to make yourself heard as there were only 4 of us. We got shown some GIS mapping software and asked what we thought it could be used for etc, but I think it's different for every group, because the tutorial is with a professor who does something from their area of specialism. At the beginning we did have to answer why we wanted to study Geography and why we particularly wanted to go to UCL, so be ready for that. Don't know if it will be the same for you but that's what happened to me.
