Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or YaleI think that no matter what people "say" or assume, the real person who has the control to get into a UK graduate program is you.(Original post by digitalfever)
Possibly. I would hope that it was just these profs. I want to eventually continue on to get a Phd in the UK.

My professor would always tell me that no matter where you come from, or where you go, you will always be defined by your work, not your institution.
You'll be fine! -

Well maybe I'm being too optimistic. -
Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or YalePeople with a Master's or Bachelor's degree from a European university can gain entry into a PhD program in the US.(Original post by Holly1389)
...
Things can get a little tricky in that one might not be exempted from *all* the grad courses of the (US) PhD program. One should also note that, unlike in most places in Europe, a UK MS is only a year long, consisting of 90 ECTS. European Masters' typically last two years, with each year consisting of 60 ECTS. -

Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or YaleYou can't do Medicine as an undergraduate in the States. You have to do an undergrad degree in something else, THEN apply as a graduate for med school (which I gather is fiercely competitive, long and probably expensive)(Original post by New Guy)
Ok... sorry but this has got me confused...but I also have another question (sorry)... could someone explain what the harvard undergraduate system is? I keep on looking for a medicine degree but there doesn't seem to be one but there is a medical school...
-
Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or YaleI'm afraid what I wrote is as much as I know about medical degrees(Original post by New Guy)
but aren't there scholarships to fund that? how do they work? and the undergrad degree in harvard apparently it has something to do with "courses"?

Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or YaleI don't think my understanding would be any better than yours. I gather there's a liberal arts system where you spread yourself across lots of subjects, with perhaps only a few compulsory ones. That's as much as I know(Original post by New Guy)
do you know anything about harvard undergraduate courses? I researched them but I could understand them as I'm used to the UK system.

Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or Yale5-7 years, that's a lot. i mean, if it's full time, it means you can't work.(Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd)
Of course it's possible. You need to remember, though, that (depending on what your subject is), postgraduate study in the States might only be available as a PhD. This (again, depending on the subject) can be of longer duration than in England.
If we take me as an example: to study at Harvard, I would expect to be there doing a 5-7 year PhD full time. In England, a PhD would take me 3-4 years full time

Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or YaleYou get a teaching assistant post with a stipend for that(Original post by hannaaahlima)

I'm not sure you'd get a student loan in the UK if you did that. So doing graduate medicine could end up being very expensive. You'd be better off just doing undergrad medicine in the UK, tbh(Original post by New Guy)
well what if I did undergraduate in US and then graduate in UK say in medicine?
-
Re: Doing undergrad in Cambridge or Oxford and graduate in Harvad or YaleSounds expensive. Try asking the guys in the Medicine subforum about whether there's any point(Original post by New Guy)
see I was planning on majoring biophysics or biochemistry in us and then doing medicine....is there any worth to that?
