    Room mate problems
Basically I'm one of those people that have been put into bunk rooms. Initially I got on fairly well with my room mate, but now I've come to realise he's a complete slob, he leaves tissues laying around that he's blown his nose on, he never hovers or empties the bin. He snores so loudly it's impossible to sleep some nights. Then being in a bunk room and knowing other people can walk in really messes with my head for some reason, and it's actually nothing to do with the lack of privacy.

tl;dr Unhappy with room mate, what can I do other than going into a single room and having my budget decimated down to at most 40 pounds a week.
    Or is this enough money?

How much difference is there between the bunk and single rooms price wise?

About 20 pounds into non-catered currently I'm at 70 in catered but if I was in a single catered room then it would be about 110 a week so 40 pounds more leaving a 20 pound a week budget. (Sorry for the lack of pound signs)

If catered is 110 a week then why not go into self catered? I'm in Cwrt Mawr and my rent is around £70 with the residential bursary. If that doesn't suit you though, you can quite easily live off £20 a week - if you like going out a lot this will be difficult, but otherwise £20 is fairly decent. Personally though, I'd go into self catered because then at least you can eat basic stuff like pasta for a week if you need the spare cash.

WTF? Bunk rooms. I didn't even know that you got those at uni. Anyway, invest in earplugs? I agree it's annoying, but he can't easily change what he does when he's sleeping, or really be held responsible. I sympathise though, and I agree that he could control the blowing of the nose etc.

See http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40-EAR-Cla...item5ada42da49 for decent earplugs - I use these because my sister has to practise playing her musical instruments and it can get loud and not be what you want to listen to at that point in time.

Or ebay to find other earplugs you'd prefer. Sometimes it's naptime for me but my sister wants to play her instruments so I stick the earplugs in and it's fantastic.

Why would anyone even consider the prospect of sharing a bunk room with a stranger?

Surly that's what deters members of society from breaking the law.

Are you sure that he has blown his nose on these tissues?

It could be even worse than you think..

It could be that tim.s had no choice in the matter.

Aberystwyth University management have ignored many a warning from the Guild of Students (i.e. Student's Union) and others over the past four years that their admissions policy was unsustainable due to the lack of university accommodation and private sector accommodation in town. They didn't listen, brushed it all off as an over reaction and as a result, ended up with 600 (or 400 depending on who you speak to) students too many - hence the bunk rooms.

If it were me I'd want to get a single room even if it meant a loss money-wise. I'd hate the lack of privacy.
If you want to give it more of a try then I'd say invest in some good earplugs to help you sleep, and maybe have a chat to him, ask him to tidy up his tissues as it's a bit gross. The hoovering/bin emptying however aren't a massive deal, just do it yourself and don't get into an argument about it if you want to stay.

I'm fairly certain he does that in the shower, at least I hope so anyway. I didn't have a choice in a bunk room along with a lot of other people but, I can request a transfer to a single room, whether it will ever happen however... Thanks for the link to the ear plugs, I will be giving it a go, could be funny to give the receipt to the accommodation office.

Ahahaha notice how I'm posting at 3 in the morning because I couldn't sleep through his snoring xD

    Is that PJM?
If you move out does that mean your old room-mate has to start paying more? I never really understood how the whole bunk bed system would work once someone left the room.
