Re: Qub nursing intake 12/13
I start my nursing on 13th February (eep!). Last year anyway, I heard back about interviews around the middle of February and my interview was around the middle of march. I got my offer mid may. They tell you though not to expect an offer until the end of may beginning of June so it was a lovely surprise!
If anyone needs any help or advice for the interviews etc don't hesitate to contact me! -

I really want to get into Queens but I don't think my grades and experience is good enough after hearing about other people. What was your application like?!

Re: Qub nursing intake 12/13
Hey gclarke607! I heard back from Queen's around the middle of february calling me for interview around mid march time I think. In that letter they send you a few forms to fill in such as an Access NI form and your occupational health form, in which you need to give all the dates of your vaccinations (prob best to go to you GP reception ASAP to get your vaccination record as sometimes the children's health department don't inform your GP that you've had you school leavers DPT). You need to bring all these forms to interview (Access NI costs £30 but you don't have to pay that until you accept an offer). The interview isn't as scary as everyone makes out so don't panic!! When you go in you check in at the desk and then you have to wait (which is the worst part!!). The interview panel consists of 2 people, one taking notes and the other asking most of the questions. I heard that they have a list of questions and pick one at random. You could be asked three questions or six, just depending on how long your answer is. I can't quite remember my questions but they ask a bit about you, why you want to be a nurse, screening nurses for criminal records, greatest achievements etc etc. I honestly didn't think I would get an offer as I got a bit ahead of myself and went on a long rant about patient confidentiality!
Like you, I didn't have any experience and my AS grades were CCD. Thankfully i studied biology so all I needed was a level grades of CCD.
Just be aware though that there are two intakes and have a plan in place so that if you get placed in February you aren't sitting about for six months! I've been working night shift in a nursing home since August and it has been the best experience ever as I have learnt so much. My best advice would be to go to a nursing home near you and ask to help out say on a saturday morning or something (all nursing homes end up short staffed at the weekends!).
And don't worry about you grades, they offered a friend of mine a place with poor GCSE results and AS results of CEU (without a science), although she didn't do much better with her a levels so was turned away.
Good luck and try not to worry, of you need anymore help contact me, I'm happy to help!

Re: Qub nursing intake 12/13
Hi everyone, I'm new to TSR. I've applied to Queens too, adult branch first choice (as well as UU) but I'm really hoping to get into Queens to save having to move.
I'm at Belfast Met doing a science course that Queens accept. I may be jumping the gun a bit here but what does one wear to a uni interview? -
Re: Qub nursing intake 12/13I'm applying for the same and a few across the water. just needa make sure you look tidy..i'll prob go for trousers, heels (like decent looking ones, not ones id ever wear on a night out, just plain black, low heel) a nice shirt and jacket. or possibly fitted dress and jacket. i dont wanna go looking like id never ever dress like that..wanna look relaxed and not like an old woman! good luck x(Original post by Blondeee_87)

Re: Qub nursing intake 12/13
hi guys im starting adult nursing at queens on 13th feb and understand completely how confused about stuff yous might be and impatient. i didnt hear back until march and my interview was in june!
in regards to the interview its not as bad as people think the two ladies who took mine were so nice and really calmed me down. i got asked a range of questions like what i think the role of a nurse is?, any current issues in nursing? why i wanted to be a nurse? and greatest achievements. its really just about reading up on other peoples experiences. if yous search on here for the 2011 intake you'll find info on interviews.
for dress code for interview a lot of people there at the same time as me were very casual as it was a summers day ie summer dresses. shorts and sandals etc. i just wore black trousers and nice top with pumps nothing ott.
hope this helps a little because i know i was terrified and clueless lol i still am atm to be honest. i didnt comment a lot of last years forum as i was so shy but i strongly advise staying in contact and supporting each other it really helps. you never know you might end up in the same classes lol
best of luck girls! -
Re: Qub nursing intake 12/13Hi Tyronenew, I'm a mature student too and was wondering how long were you out of education for? It's been 12 years for me and I am really afraid that too long. I've done courses with the Irish Red Cross which are recognised by the PHECC but I don't know if that's enough. I am so nervous waiting to hear.........(Original post by Tyronenew)
It appears like a very minor error to me. I posted mine yesterday after many, many checks but dont think I will look at again until I hear something.
I am very nervous about the whole process as I am a mature applicant and have been out of education for quite some time.
I wish you all the very best. -

Re: Qub nursing intake 12/13(Original post by katpink)
I am hoping to apply in the next few days. I am still undecided as i would be giving up a full time job in the civil service, plus i have a 1 year old and not sure how i would cope with full time nursery fees.
Do any of you have children and what are your plans?
there is a part of the bursary that helps fund towards childcare up to £1200 max I think if you get in touch with queens they will give you the number to contact them there is also a link on the nursing application instructions for their website. I hope to avail of this service too. I think you can also claim certain social benefits to help suppliment your bursary too!!! Its now or never!!!
