What's more important the university, subject or grade?

What's more important in a degree when applying for a job (assuming the degree is non-vocational): the university itself, the subject or the grade?
Firstly the grade. 2:1 is usually the minimum (some might be a 2:2) if you don't have that grade they'll just scrap the application there and then. I'd then say that the University will play a part, it'll help to have gone to a russell group uni and the like, but it will not ultimately sway your application. Then it'll be the subject. This won't have much impact when applying for a job, but if you were to have a degree in surf studies or something similar, you're not going to be in a good position up against a law graduate, but generally as long as you have a 2:1 the subject won't make a huge difference.

What you missed out is experience. That's probably just as important as the grade. They're not going to hire a graduate who's just been in education all their life, he/she will have no experience in the work place. The more part time, voluntary jobs you've had the more you will stand out.

Everyone about summed it up.
If you're fretting about your subject choices, don't force yourself into something you don't enjoy for the sake of appearances.

The more passionate you are, the better you'll do, the more marketable you are.

- The degree will be a lot more appealing to the people you're trying to work for IF your degree is in a subject thats RELEVANT to them :')

- University plays a very big part - obviously you have Oxbridge which are highest then the London Uni's - UCL/LSE etc .. But as its said above.. Russell Group University is definitely good enough..

- Russell Group uni's range from Warwick to Liverpool.. Warwick asking for AAA for a particular course and Liverpool asking for ABB for the same course.

- The Grade HAS to be 2:1 or higher really.. a 2:2 is not good enough really - if the degree is in a course you enjoy, work at it and you should be able to get a 2:1.

From the point of the company it's all about the person, it so crazy but some companies don't bother that much with your actual grade, to them that just show that you can apply yourself to something and achieve.

Subject > Grade > Uni

But it depends on what job, where you are applying to and a hell of a lot of other things, experience and references trump everything.

subject - grade - university

my mum did history at oxford and got 2:2 and shes just got a job as a writer on our local magazine
Grade - Subject - University.

Many graduate jobs require you to have a 2.1, doesn't matter in what subject or where you studied which is the rationale for the order I've put them - there are exceptions though of course.
Subject>grade>uni
Hi, the subject and grades both are important factor for your future career.
