King's College Cambridge- Mathematics Written Test
    Hi there,

I have applied to King's and got an interview. I am wondering if anyone know's what type of questions, topics e.t.c are in the 1hr mathematics test?

    Thanks

King's Interview Notes for Candidates 2011

"You will sit a written test lasting one hour in the morning of your interview. No past
papers are available for this test – you simply turn up and do your best. Calculators
are not permitted. The test is designed to be taken by people from all over the world
and in all different examination systems. Please do not worry about differences in
    syllabus."

I am thinking about applying for Kings and was wondering what topics came up when you took the test. The exam is taken at the interview in December so I would have only covered up to C4 and perhaps M2 and S2. Would this be enough or is it necessary to learn extra in advance, i.e. in the summer holidays.

I applied for King's a few years ago (I didn't get in though ). They provided material to learn - though that might not be the case every year.

I learnt the material to a reasonable standard, and thought the test went quite well - two interviews, my first interview went horrifically, and they said they'd only do a second interview if the results from the test and first interview didn't match up. (When I say horrific... it was bad, despite what people say about "those who think they did badly usually did well..." etc.)

I wouldn't worry about it too much yet - there will be enough time after they reply to your application to sort out what you need to learn and prepare for the process (it might require a fair bit of extra work though - some of the material they set was definitely a challenge to understand)

Probably a good idea to be comfortable with as much maths as possible that you already know, even if that is a banal point. Really, they're looking for clever ways of solving problems, or an ability to learn the material they provide under your own steam - then they test your knowledge of A-level with STEP. Good luck though, it was certainly interesting!
