Re: Whats your favorite beer?(Original post by zippyRN)
ale should be stored and served at natural cellar temperature of 12 c
chilling lagers is to hide the adverse tastes of many of the commercial chemical products sold as lager
Says who? If I prefer ales at 2 c so, who has the right to tell me I'm wrong? Many modern craft breweries serve their ale at this temperature. The UK is the only country in the world where beer is served lukewarm.
I don't drink commercial lager if I can help it. -
Re: Whats your favorite beer?1. both ales and lagers ( in reference to whether top of bottom fermented) pre date refrigeration.(Original post by py0alb)

2. excessive chilling would prevent cask or bottle conditioning
3. the quality of the product is not adversely affected by ambient storage
4. 12 c is still cold - it's colder than tap water for most of the year which tends to be at or around the average temperature of the environment.
'lukewarm' beer would be served at the temperature of a swimming pool (26-30c) rather than 12c... -

lager can only be produced at low temperatures actually.
This still doesn't answer my point that there is no reason why I can't drink my ale cold like the Americans do. Nothing beats a nice ice cold pint of Brooklyn Lager.
I just personally prefer my drinks to either be properly hot or properly cold. None of this cool/ambient/warm rubbish. -
Re: Whats your favorite beer?
on a "BUMPING" note, i just had a pint of john smiths iv not had for a while and its really a nice draught bitter. its quite surprising from the name, since "john smiths" suggests something boring and unexciting, like an overcast british sky, or a cow, or a gcse history teacher.
any other beer names which suggest different to their tastes? -

Re: Whats your favorite beer? You tried Guinness Foreign Export? It's one of the nicest stouts I've ever had.(Original post by CitizensUnited)
Give me a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord, Sneck Lifter (or anything by Jennings really) or Guinness and I'm satisfied. They're so good
And I love your sig, by the way

Re: Whats your favorite beer?Probably a stupid question, but what's the difference between Guiness and Guiness FE?(Original post by Aleandcynicism)

I always thought Guiness was OK, I can drink it but it's never my first choice. Then I had Guiness FE and was like wow, this is actually damn nice... -
Re: Whats your favorite beer?Guinness FE is a higher percentage (can't remember it exactly) and it's much richer in malt flavour. And aye, Guinness Draught (normal Guinness) is alright, but once you've tried stuff like FE you end up wondering how draught came to exist.(Original post by CJ)
