It'll depend on whether your store can afford to replace the Team Leaders who've left. They may be able to cover everything with the remaining Team Leaders. Such roles are normally recruited internally, so there'll probably be posters displayed advertising the position if one comes up. Speak to your Checkout manager about it, because they'll know if there are roles coming up, and it shows that you're interested to progress.
We have a very large store and only have 4 team leaders and not all are full-time. We originally had 8 when I first started, 1 was replaced after they had left but I can tell the department is struggling now. I'd like to become one as I'm fairly bored being on a checkout or self-scan every shift. Thanks for the reply!

Ah right. Sounds good by me, I'd be up for that. Seeing HR tomorrow so I'll ask a little more.
Yeah, I was taken off shopping to cover someone on GM yesterday. It was quite nice really, putting stuff out is simple (very few heavy items and you don't need to worry about rotating stock etc) and you don't get as many customers coming down your aisles as the rest of the shop - which on a Saturday morning was bliss!

hey! i was looking for a little bit of advice.

i've got an interview on friday for Sainsburys as an online shopper. I've read through various posts and threads so i think I have a good idea of what to expect, and I am not worried abou the DVD part.

However, would I be right in saying the only 3 questions the interviewer will ask are:

    1. Why do you want to work for Sainsburys?
    2. Why do you want to work as an Online shopper in particular?
    3. What do you think your roles will be in this job?

If anyone's recently had a (successful, preferably ) interview for online shopping, could they give me an idea if this is correct?. Question 1 and 3 are pretty straightforward, however, I could use a few ideas for 2!

Thanks in advance to everybody who helps!

This 100 millionaires on Friday is ANNOYING!! Every Lotto slip prints another slip about the 100m draw!! Most just go into the bin that to the customer!

We're expecting it to be busy that day to having all 3 kiosk tills open instead of the normal 2. Only problem is the 3rd till has no room for anyone to put any shopping apart from the packing area.

Also hope they remember to fill it with notes & coins as well as it's rarely used (apart from when another till crashes) so there's never a lot of money in it.

Can't wait for that draw to be over!

We've decided there's no point in opening the third kiosk till, as you'd still only have the one lottery machine, and so you wouldn't be able to serve anyone any faster, and would just have 3 cashiers waiting to use the lottery machine rather than 2.

Yh, it does seem stupid as there isn't much room in the kiosk as it is anyway but I guess our manager didn't really think of that!

I suppose they might be thinking the queues will be longer so to get them served faster, even if they are just having tobacco.

Unless we have one of the tills serving lottery only?

BTW, what idiot designed the kiosk?? Most stupid thing about it is having the till drawer at the side instead of in front of you, takes up too much room!

Colleague the other day had a customer with a foreign ID without a date of birth on, checkout manager say's we can accept it! I had this customer today, how the hell can we accept it to serve someone an age restricted product (tobacco)?!?!

    Bloody ridiculous!

It is Sainsbury's policy that we only accept UK and international photocard passports/drivers licenses in addition to UK PASS cards. (the policy can be pulled off Connect)

It is also a lawful requirement that photocard ID used as proof of purchase for age restricted items must display a date of birth - your checkout manager is completely, 100% in the wrong with this.

Should you fail a test purchase, you are breaking the law.

Spoken with my HR/Portsmouth's HR and I'm now meeting the manager of Produce next week about Deli/Fresh hours. If not, it's back to HR about the GM/TU hours.

From next week every Monday and Tuesday I have to run the Deli counter by myself and tidy up everything.. I tried doing this from 7pm yesterday but it was nearly impossible as there's always customers coming, I still don't know how to cut the carvery ham either (which really annoyed someone yesterday!). Oh maaan. I wish I had picked a part time job instead, 5 days a week is such a killer.. I had stiff legs at the end of last saturday. :P

Our supervisors always monitor our ID'ing, other day she popped up and asked them there age after the sale and then I said the years they were born and they both went why do you need our age he has already asked and seen our ID" (20 and 21), I felt smug haha, but its for our own good, I rather get busted by staff then the police!. ID has got to be the worst part of the job.

There is always someone kicking off on self scan, because of a refuse sale, cmon if you look under25 carry ID, not worth the hassle, Im under 25 and always carry ID. Anyways last time it took 4 members of staff to calm her down and another 3 back up... people these days.
