Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
Nobody has answered my questions:
1. Whose job is it to do the Price is Right Walk? Surely before we sign for our own department on the PIRW we need to know that things are correct? Or is that the job of Price Control?
2. If I want to be trained to do some codechecking, can my manager refuse me to learn this skill? I don't want a codechecker job (yet) but it is a useful skill to have on my CV if I ever move on... -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIYou only have to clock in/ out for 1 hour breaks which you get on 9 hour shifts.(Original post by onda)
Do you have to clock in/out for breaks if you only work full time?
My hours are Fridays 5 to 10:30pm and Saturdays 3 to 10:30pm
You don't need to clock out for 15/30 min breaks -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK III1. Surely you would know what it is and who is responsible for it. if you are as good as you say you are. There is a question about it in the safe n sound. Commercial perform the walk, you then sign the sheet to say everything is correct, so yes you should be walking the dept. to check.(Original post by Isambard Kingdom Brunel)

2. If you don't need to perform any codechecking tasks I cannot see why they would waste time and resources to train someone to do something they do not need to know. -
lol what are you on about? No one cares I have a second job. They just want me to turn up...(Original post by Isambard Kingdom Brunel)
If you have a second job, then you won't be respected at Sainsbury's anyway. Your colleagues will end up bullying you.
I find you must attempt to be 'one of the gang' and lower your standards accordingly. Don't tell people you have a better job, and that Sainsbury's is just a bit of extra money. That is career suicide.

Have you never heard of career progression? Never heard of changing departments, enhancing skills?
I suppose team leaders in training are a waste of space, too, are they? Silly them for wanting to better themselves.
They should just realise that there are already team leaders in existance, in which case they are not needed.

never said training was pointless, training in something you just want to boost your ego is. It's like me asking to be trained to work in the cash office when my job does not require me to do so, just so I can go on a forum and say 'i can codecheck, do cda work but i'm overlooked for overtime everytime while a replener gets it all'. -

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIINot sure if I should reply, but...No, people won't just bully you just because you have another job or aspire to be somewhere else. This seems to just be a problem at your store. People have suggested you transfer before, but you say you don't want to be the new guy. Is that because you want to be promoted in the near future? Because by the sounds of it, you aren't going to be promoted at your store anyway, whether through the fault of your management or yourself, I don't know, so you may as well try your chances somewhere else. I'm rather shy and don't consider myself "one of the gang", but I'm friendly to colleagues and they're friendly back. I'm able to get overtime, trained on new things etc. It really is your store.(Original post by Isambard Kingdom Brunel)

I dont know how much this guy (who was trying to answer and be helpful) knows about career progression but i'd take a good guess that he probably knows more than you -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII know SO many of these people, think there better then everyone else and act like team leader when they do the exact same job as you and exact pay!.(Original post by LivinginColour)
mate, not to be nasty but you're 30+ and still in the same general assistant job as many teenagers.
Just because your 30 odd and worked there for since you were 16 does not make you better then me, If anything it makes you worse, If someone half your age can do the same job as you then what does that make you. Rant over! -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIPlanning to stay in convenience, or go back into main business?(Original post by davireland)
Im currently on the Retail Grad scheme, I'm currently completing my second placement as a department manager in main estate. In January, I start my final placement of the scheme as a Convenience Store Manager, then fingures crossed I'll end the scheme as a 5S in March. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII have been working here for a few years, I only began here when I returned to study as a mature student, so please less of the discrimination.(Original post by LivinginColour)

Anybody can enrol on a work-based NVQ, in fact people bend over backwards to help you 'further yourself' with those kind of qualifications, but this assistance obviously doesn't extend as far as helping one train on the job, i.e. learning to do codechecking, learning to be baler-trained, learning to do disposals etc.
I do find it sad that I am untrained on any of those things, but then again I have never been offered to learn them, nor am I seemingly allowed to ask to be trained.
So, whatever, there's a lot of corruption at my store, and it has nothing to do with me. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIAt mine there were only 3 people(Original post by imyza)
I have an interview coming up and was wondering if anyone has suggestions on what to wear for smart casual? Also, were there many people at your interview? Thanks :-)
usually it is a small group rather than by yourself
