Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIThere's a £2.53 premium (per hour) on bank holidays.(Original post by DarkMagic)
Do we get extra money for working New Years Day though?
I have my first shift tonight, just realised the size 30R trousers I asked for are actually size 36R, FML. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII too got the same day later came back with excatly the same shift pattern and job!(Original post by raspberry3)
I originally went for a interview for a Counter Assistant job. I got the same email, but they called me back 2 weeks later saying they have a checkout position & would I be interested (seeing as I had passed the interview stage.)
So I had a 10min interview with the checkout manager and he gave me the job on the spot.
Good luck, hope they get back to you if something else comes up

Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
I am a bit worried. Was asked to Do overtime on my sat shift for the next Tuesday. I realised the next day that I couldn't do it as
I had a medical appoinment. I phoned the sickness line straight away(didn't know who else to call, maybe that was the problem) and told them I couldn't do it. my manager has since asked me for the appointment letter. I don't have one as it was made on the phone which i have told her. Im worried as have 3 weeks left on my probation and was all going fine. Do you think it will a problem?? Afterall I wasn't going sick or anything and gave them notice. It's just that I put in for overtime and realised I couldn't do it.Last edited by theblues1; 17-12-2011 at 01:00. Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
Anyone know how much a Christmas temp at Sainsburys will earn?
I've heard varying information from £6.30 something to £6.70 per hour.
Also, I used to work there 2 years ago, I went to uni and now I've come back for Christmas after they contacted me. Will that make a difference? -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIHi frnd can u help me in applying for the team leader position? Coz i dont know how to answer for that. I got my psw. Please I hope someone should help(Original post by TheRosePetal)
My managers are pretty nice but they are burly men, so not the kind of people you would easily talk too. Plus, i would be too worried about getting sacked and i need this job.
I didn't think about sick days or holidays, i guess that gives me more of a reason to ask if i keep doing full time hours.
Thank you!

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIThe team leader interview is easy. But due to forum rules we are not allowed to give you an unfair advantage by telling you what to expect in the interview.(Original post by vignesh2413)

If you have common sense, you'll find the interview easy. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
Hi all,
I'm a new employee at Sainsbury's (been working about three weeks) and I was recently ill for one shift (an overtime shift) with a stomach bug ( I literally couldn't leave my bathroom all day). When I called the absence number the man on the other end told me that I was likely to not be kept on after the 3 month probationary period due to this absence. Is this true? It seemed to me he was saying I should have come in anyway but there was nothing I could do because if I had come in I would have thrown up all over a customer! At my induction it was stressed over and over again that if you have a contagious disease or vomiting/diarrhoea then you shouldn't come in. This has been weighing heavily on me because I am no longer at uni/getting a student loan and before I got this job I had been unemployed for 6 months.
Is there a way to contest being let go in the probationary period?
Thanks x
p.s. Also I keep being made to work 1/2 an hour over when my normal shifts end and a co-worker told me I don't get paid for this extra work (it has been up to 45 mins). Is this true also? I assumed so as they have been working there for longer but it seems very odd to me. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIDon't worry about it, they always use empty threats.(Original post by generalsmuts)

Ask your manager to confirm whether or not you're getting paid overtime for staying on. Chances are you won't be, so get up and walk out when your shift is up. If they want to keep you they can pay you for it. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIAs FXX has said, empty threats are used, especially to those that do not know the company and its rules and procedures. If they had said that to me I would have told straight.(Original post by generalsmuts)

Also with the hours - if your not getting paid for it, don't work it. They are not allowed to force you to stay (I had the store manager last year on xmas eve that I - and everyone else, couldn't leave until the returns had been done. I was on my 14th hour, and I was so tired that I nearly fell asleep flighting the self scans. I told him this and left). If your job requires you to stay (For example, for me if the flight is not done, and the money is not secure, I cannot leave), tell your manager you'll be in later the next shift.
My manager is good though because she pays me whenever I need to stay behind.
Basically, stand your ground. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIwhat new reward cards??(Original post by number-11)
does anyone have those new reward cards? I tried using it today... but it said it hasn't been activated yet? -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII'm not sure if its new or not... but I was given a card that can be loaded up with some credit to spend in store.(Original post by thatg)

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIDo you mean that 'colleague recognition card'? If so, I got given one of those as well...no idea what it's for or how to use it, though.(Original post by number-11)

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIThe card is only a very recent addition. Have you never received a "shining star" in the past?(Original post by Saliency)
I've been there 16 months and no recognition
What do you have to do to get these rewards?
At my store - or the store I work at - as a management team., we'd issue money to the card for service that goes above and beyond what you're paid to do. For e.g. company average MCM is 80%, if you manage to get 100% for your shop floor or checkout service, we'll give you £5 on your recognition card. If you think of an idea that saves the store money, and time, we'll load you some money onto your recognition card.
Things of that nature. Its almost a prerequisite to MCM that if you score 100%, you'd get a shining star/money loaded onto your love card. So the key to getting an extra fiver here or there is to deal with every customer in the store, every minute of your shift, providing exceptional service :P
