Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
Just wondering about my first wage. I started at the beginning of this month, and I wondered how likely is it that i'll be paid for the STUPENDOUS amount of overtime I have done on top of my normal hours already? I was thinking because I am a new starter, it may be possible that my wage will be wrong. Also, are they prone to not paying people correctly? I've been told this, and the only reason I have this extra job on top of university is for bills, so can't afford to wait until the next payday if I get paid wrong!

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIThe cut off date for this period's pay is Saturday the 29th. So any overtime done after this date won't be paid until the 2nd of November. But anything done before then should be included in your next pay. Best thing to do is keep track of all the hours you have done - contract & overtime - and work out how much you should get paid. Find out how much your hourly rate is because it might not be what you think it is seeing as you're a new start.(Original post by Chloe0301)

I've always been paid the exact amount I should be due after doing lots of overtime. Just make sure all your hours are accounted for.

Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
I have an interview with Sainsburys on Thursday for convenience customer assistant and I was wondering if we could take a day off during our probation period. Should I mention it during my interview? or would that put me at a disadvantage? I just want one day off for Eid. Also do we have our inductions during the hours we want to work? Because i'm going to be busy from 9-5 on weekdays and I'm only free on weekends to do an induction if I do get a job that is. I'm really nervous about the interview too.
It's supposed to be a 'group assessment' is that the interview with the Dvd test and the one to one with the interviewer? o.O
Thank you in advance

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII don't think your wage is any different whether you're new or old staff? Only thing that is different is Sunday premium?(Original post by nevets93)

That's what I thought anyway? I should be on £6.54. Thanks, yeah i've definitely kept track of hours i've done. If I don't get paid correctly, I'll flip my lid. I had alot of problems with wages when I worked at Tesco - as in we hardly got paid correctly for overtime. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII think a day off during probation is fine, because we still have to take holidays. I have just been given 38 hours holiday that I need to take before April. It would be even better if you mentioned it in your interview, as they usually ask whether you have any holidays booked. I had my induction on days that I won't be working in my contract, they usually book every employee they have just taken on, onto the same induction shifts. The interview is really nothing to worry about. I'm not sure what they mean there by group assessment, because during my DVD test we weren't really allowed to confer answers or even speak to each other; but that's probably what they mean!(Original post by FMedT)

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIAfter I first started it took 6 months for my hourly rate to go to the advertised one(Original post by Chloe0301)

Mind you, I was under 18 at the time
I'm not sure if there's a Sunday premium? I don't get one and neither do any of the other stores in my region. A couple of colleagues in my work do get it, but that's because the type of contract their on.
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm now a Band 3 Team Leader and my hourly rate is now up to £7.57, so I'm hoping I get paid for that rate! If I don't, I'll flip as well haha
If for any reason you don't get paid what you think you should, raise it with HR immediately! They'll be able to sort it out for you

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIMention any days you want off in your interview as they have to honour them. There will be absolutely no problem if it's for Eid!(Original post by FMedT)

The induction is usually at the weekend, but it normally doesn't exceed your contracted hours so you basically have worked them before you properly start, if that makes sense? In my store a typical induction group will be in twice during the week, both of those will 6pm-10pm, and then Saturday and Sunday both 9am-6pm.
As far as your interview goes, I don't actually know what the 'group assessment' entails. I'd imagine you all watch the DVD and then do a 1-to-1 interview. I'm not sure but. Just be yourself and do some research on the company! -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIISeriously? That's odd. Well, my contract said £6.32 but they said it should infact say 6.54 and that they've just been through a pay review - they said that's the only reason it said that. So hopefully i've not just signed my life away to something that isn't right! Yeah I'm at the Wigan store and people who started before a certain date get Sunday premium and some even get DOUBLE PAY on Sundays - how unfair! Haha yeah definitely, we have to get what we work for ey(Original post by nevets93)

Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
Hi, have been reading for along time but never posted
I started working for Sainsbury's at the end of March. I'm 17 ATM
How do I go about getting my staff discount card? Many collegues who started after me have theres already, and when I asked in HR they said just wait till your name goes up on the board to collect it from us.
Also I'm on £4.89p/h at the minute, does this go up after 6th Months for under 18's? Some people say I'll get the adult payrate some people say it doesn't change. I work on checkouts for a large supermarket store - not convenience. If it does change, do I need to do anything or will HR just change it automatically?
Many Thanks

Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
Does anyone know if we'll be doing a special deal for FIFA 13? Like if you spend £30 you get it for £25, or the other deals we do sometimes for games. I can't be bothered paying full RRP, not because I'm cheap, but because I can also use my discount card to get a cheeky £3 off it or something...

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIdon't think anyone other than the price setters know about the pricing strategy for fifa 13 yet but i would expect it to be the stretch and save they have done in the past 2 years.(Original post by nevets93)

would be the same for black ops, they tend to keep it a secret until 1 or 2 days before release when it appears in the papers. Although any who rambles through any POS during next week will probably find something with the price on, or it may be on the chart poster that gets delivered end of this week.
not sure when the managers get the email about it, think they've already got one regarding midnight openings and that it is strictly one copy per discount card (so be careful about get one for a family member if you are getting one for yourself), but there was no price on it.Last edited by mug51; 18-09-2012 at 18:23. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIAll of the POS stuff is next to the Checkouts cage anyway, and next time I'm I'll have a look through the stuff they keep in the office. I've bought FIFA out of work the past 2 years and will again this year, just in the past I knew about the deal weeks before release. This year they seem to be more secretive...(Original post by mug51)

We do midnight openings, but it only tends to be for Call of Duty and only have two staff on. I'll buy it regardless, but just can't resist a good deal

Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
I do my first proper shift tomorrow night after my induction this weekend. Not yet received my uniform yet so wondering what to wear they said smart/casual at induction but as a girl doing nightshifts I'm not sure as smart to me is skirts/dresses - yet it'll be quite physical work I understand and skirts arn't really suitable not to mention it will be cold and all warm things - jumpers/thick jackets are really casual.
Its a night shift and so will just be replenishing so no customers around, any ideas gratefully received. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIAnything will do. It's night shift. Half the ones on ours don't wear uniform and they've been there years.(Original post by pinkmeerkat)

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII don't think that would go down well with MCM!(Original post by Negotiator)
If an item is out of stock and a customer asks you to check out back despite you knowing there is none left. Can I refuse to do so?
You could always go into the back to double check. And then offer the customer an alternative when you return. The customer should feel that you value them and their request then.
