Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII did that and the team leader said I should not call for the supervisors and use my own initiative when on the desk to sort out problems but for a quite a few of them I wasnt sure however but I didnt mind the time I spent in the desk but some of the customers just drive me up the wall(Original post by jamielreid)
The desk is something that comes with practice, the more you do it, the better you get. I've been desk trained for about two years now and theres still things which I still learn! Remember just dial 66 if you need help and the runners and supervisors can sort you out

Quick question about the mystery customer for checkouts
we had one last sunday and scored a really low percentage, atm there looking through the schedules and trying to work out who was on the till at the time
I honestly think It was me who was mystery shopped, will i get a disciplinary if it turns out to be me ? -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIINot on the first occasion, it should just be a simple case of re-coaching - only through persistent poor service, will you be given a disciplinary.(Original post by cgvince)

About MCM, your department manager only needs to ring up and he/she can find out who the colleague is - I don't understand why managers both going through schedules and wasting time.
To be truthful, if you know that you've done poorly - you should know that you need to improve. If you need additional clarification on the MCM criteria, just ask your team leader or department manager

Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
A quick question, what is the likelihood my temporary will become permanent?
It is obviously a job for students before going back to uni because it end on 30th september but the guy at the interview said it is very likely it will become permanent.
Have any of you been on a temporary one then made permanent? -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIEvery single NEW employee of Sainsbury's starts on a temporary contract - whether they be a band 2 CSA, or a band 6 supermarket store manager.(Original post by chris896)

If you're successful in your 12 week probationary period, you'll be kept on - providing there are hours in the business to give you.
Just work hard, commit to overtime where possible - if the hours are there, and you have a good track record of punctuality, absence, hard work etc, you should be fine. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII had an interview last thursday and they got back this tuesday telling me I had the job(Original post by iAmBrOwNbEaR)

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII would say your team leaders are not being very supportive...If they knew it was your first time in the desk they could have at least helped you a bit more...If whoever on the desk needs help, I will always go and help them. It just makes the service a bit more quicker...(Original post by RJ100)

You soon realise that it is the same customers that moan and complain and the same ones that are rude to you. For the first time ever yesterday I told someone that I didn't want to serve them after them being very rude to me. She then had the cheek to tell me to hurry the cashier up serving the customer in front of her... -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
I called in sick today, two hours before my shift, but it was disconnected. I call the actual store number and ask for the sick number but a manager answers. He basically asks my name, why I'm ill and if it's the first time this week. I say "Yes," and then he asks when my next shift is and I said tomorrow. He then said "See you tomorrow," with an 'or else' tone and hung up.
I'm wondering if there is a reason he was so short with me, I'm ill and it's not like I was snickering and shushing my friends in the background. I thought it might be ,because barring my shift tomorrow, I have two weeks off on holidays but he doesn't know who I am because I never work with him and he's newer. I also just push trollies and can go weeks without talking to anyone in the store.
Also, I've been working there for two years and this is my third day off. I worked with a guy who worked there four years and he used to take a week or two off at a time a couple times a year and have no real issue. -
Re: Sainsburys thread MK III
After not being able to get a job since I was 16 (and that was only a paper round... I did get offered one when I was 18 but I lost it when I said I was away at Christmas cause I always went away to see Grandparents 6 hours away.. Every other job application I've been rejected due to not having work experience), I got the job!
Annoyingly the induction start week (9th July) means if I start the job the next week after, the final 12th week of probation will be during my first week of uni. I don't mind missing freshers anyway as I didn't do freshers my 1st year or 2nd year. My white lie will mean that I won't be able to transfer or be able to use them as a reference, but I need the money (especially for my final year of uni), and always wanted some work experience so I can't complain!

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIII had no experience and when I told the guy in the interview he was really cool about it and even said everybody has to start somewhere. I got the job aswell without experience and my induction is on 11th july which is my birthday -_-(Original post by BuryMeInBlack)

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIThey're supposed to ask if you're going to the doctors and if you're going to be in for your next shift (at least, this is what I've always been asked). From the way different managers have spoken when taking my call, and department managers have spoke to me and my friends when having the "counciling" review afterwards, they don't believe anyone's ever really ill and are just pressuring you into not taking days off. If you're still ill tomorrow, phone in ill.(Original post by Jockpest)

I know it's hardly an infectious disease, but I really do find it disgusting when working with a bad cold. If I was being served on checkouts by someone who's handling my food while coughing, sneezing and blowing their nose, I'd be revolted...but they'd rather this than me taking the day off with no pay...well, I want the money, so I go in. I really don't want to get up to the third time off. -
I'm new so I don't really know what I'm doing but today I left at the end of my shift on checkouts and I didn't flight the till because I thought you had to flight it at the end of the whole day. I found out by my friend you have to flight it at the end of the shift. Am I going to be in trouble? Its My first shift so I didn't know and am worrying a bit now..

Re: Sainsburys thread MK IIIDon't know how strict your store is, my department usually does the two flights and someone basically just goes along and checks tills that have been open that day if there isn't anyone on to see if it needs a flight.(Original post by AmyBarbie)

It's probably best to get into the habit to check your till a few mins before you finish, if a flight needed call a supervisor for a flight bag or just let them no till # will need a flight. -
So I only work a couple of days a week. I've been there about a month. I'm on the checkout dept but whenever I work they say they are too short staffed to till train me. It seems like only one guy is allowed to train people :-/
I just do self-serve when I work. How can I get trained :-/
