Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012Its a HUGE jump!! Trust me and listen to my advice. Even if you are an A* pupil in your school, even if you get the highest grade your school have ever gotten!!(Original post by Monkeys!)
Guys, is biology A level hard? Is it a big jump from GCSE?
It does not matter! In gcse you can get by with little revision, and get and A but with Alevel 98% of your grade comes from YOUR hard work that you put in. Like i said even if you are an A* pupil, a C grade pupil can get higher than you because once you are doing your alevel what you got in gcse don't matter. Im not trying to but you off here im just warning you, and im not saying to not bother getting good or the best gcse grades, because that would give you some confidence but not too much that you wont work hard for your alevel. And all that is about biology and chemistry i dont know about other subjects apart from maths, maths isn't as hard to be honest its fine. But bio, in my opinion and my class opinion its harder than chem. So yes it is a big jump unless you work extremely hard its fine
and trust me my teachers say that alevel is harder than a degree.

Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012Ohh, okay, thank you(Original post by Meg94)
I would say so. Not necessarily harder as such, but the sheer amount of detail and knowledge you need to retain for exam exam is far beyond what you have to do for GCSE. I did almost no work for my GCSE biology whatsoever and got an A*. You can't just rely on common sense for A Level.
that really helped
Would you say that a fair amount of people in your school are doing well in their biology A level? -

it really helped,
Harder than a degree :O damn! So if I were to go over it thoroughly, and learn everything well, I'll be fine? -
Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012I would say that the ones who are putting the work in are. Unfortunately, I come from a big state sixth form college, and there are many students *sigh* who have taken biology thinking it will be easy or couldn't care less that they've got a U.(Original post by Monkeys!)
Ohh, okay, thank you
that really helped

As long as you constantly read around the topics that you learn about, you should be fine!
That's what I do, and I've got an A on every single internal test we've done

Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012Yess exactly. Its all about the amount of work you put in. And that is most people's opinion that did sciences including my teacher, they found their degree easier.(Original post by Monkeys!)
Thank you for your advice

Haha All i did was read the big fat ocr book and read that by heart. I knew it word 4 word. Then made mind maps for each module connecting all the work and thats it. Main thing is learning that fat book by heart

Howdiee dudes
I need serious help with f211 biology
.
I just want to ask those that did conquer/master that exam, how did you do it? Tips, techniques, etc will be much appreciated!
I do hear people saying do past papers but those questions won't neccessarily come up in the exam.
How is everyone finding f212? -
Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012you can get it from the ocr website now.(Original post by otrivine)
does someone have the june 2011 paper for this? -
Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012What's the experiment like? we're doing ours next week and we're not sure what to expect... HELP PLEASE(Original post by AS01)
We are also doing on bilogical molecules we are doing on purifying proteins from blood plasma. did u do the same one? -
Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012
Hey people I'm taking this exam in may and just going over my notes. I don''t know if anyone uses this book but the Bology Revision Guide endorsed by OCR (same cover image as textbook) has a page in cell signalling. I find the page extremely detailed with lots of information as to how Neurones communicate information, how hormones do it and even how local hormones do it.
All I've seen about cell commincation/signalling in the specification is "explain the term cell signaling"
and
"explain the role of membrane-bound receptors as sites where hormones and drugs can bind" which is a little bit related to communication.
For people who got that book, should I really learn all these examples or is it a waste of time?Last edited by Giggy88; 14-04-2012 at 15:45. -
Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012I have that book too but rarely use it. I think its better to know about what it is. You just have to understand what really is cell signalling but I won't suggest you to read the definition. About the role of receptors you just have to know that it acts as receptor for hormones and stuff and how it is helpful in cell signalling you dont have to learn any of the example. They will give scenarios and everything about the receptor in exam you just have to know when to use that specific terms and stuff. Are you resitting or its it ur first time? If its ur first time then I will suggest you to go through January 2012 paper because that paper shows like to what extent they can ask question on cell signalling(Original post by Giggy88)

Re: OCR Biology F211 (cells, exchange and transport) - 11th Jan 2012My one is like using different solutions of different to purify proteins qualitative and quantitative paper are really easy don't worry about it. But evaluative one is quite hard not as easy as those two of course. You just have to know about enzymes and effect on them by different things the one which is there on the book.(Original post by NMI)
What's the experiment like? we're doing ours next week and we're not sure what to expect... HELP PLEASE
good luck

Yh, thanks for clarifying. I think that paper is not on the ocr website yet. It would be nice if someone can upload it if he's got it..
