    How did it go? Was it for primary or secondary?

    If secondary, what happened in your interview in terms of questions and tasks?

    it was KS2/KS3 combined mathematics ...

    Yea man it went well!

    There was a preliminary talk about the course etc.

    The group interview was basically 5 of us sitting around a table and they asked us a question to get the ball rolling. Two lecturers observed and commented on your input and interaction. The question was "what do you think makes a good teacher?" and it is pretty simple, you just listen to others and ask them a question then elaborate and then listen. EZ PZ. One girl got massively marked down for speaking super quiet. I got ABB on their mark sheet, what the criteria was i'll never know nobody really talked about school policy etc it was just opinions. Pretty easy to make contributions to It lasted 10 mins but the time flew by.

    Then they had a written exercise. Had to read a passage on inclusion in schools and how teachers feel about it. Then you had 30 minutes to;

    1. Sum up the main points of the article (which was, I hope, easy. I just picked topics covered and summarised them, including an example from my dissertation which was more purely showing off than anything )

    2. You were given some more info about some teacher handbook. Then you are asked how you would raise cultural awareness in schools and told to use specific examples. I wrote quite a bit of german in this section, being the absolute loon that I am

    Then they had an individual interview. I was in a very chatty mood at this point so there may have been more general questions but some of them were;

    1. What would make you a good teacher?

    2. What are your main weaknesses?

    3. If a pupil said that her ex boyfriend was threatening her with violence would you be willing to give the girl a lift home in your car?

    4. What do you know about the current educational topics? Man I got freaking lucky with this one, there was a lecture on bbc THE NIGHT BEFORE from some guy who had a nobel prize in biology for his work on cell division and he was talking about the need for more specialised teachers in schools because 80% of teachers didn't have a specific scientific qualification. Possibly lost brownie points mentioning that I was actually trying to find the late night family guy show :p:

    Then I had to discuss why 0.3 x 0.3 =/= 0.9 in a way which would be understood for a child. Used a nice little proof by contradiction, although the lecturer called it a fancier term like cognitive conflict :confused:

    >Lectures were pleasant, and the students were possibly the nicest I have ever met.

    Well done, glad the interview went well, let me know what they say Personally i think the interview is a lot more important than the tests, i mean you can improve your maths but you cant change your characteristics

    Is edge hill your first choice? Where else have you applied?

    xx
    Hi the interview was successful and they have offered me a place! I have accepted Edge Hill as my firm and have Hope as insurance xx

    Hi there,

    IOE rejected me for secondary maths because I didn't have enough classroom experience, and that isn't the first place that's said that to me. Any guesses how much classroom time is enough?

    It depends on how much classroom experience you have... I am already a TA in a primary school. So, I don't exactly know.
    But, I think minimum 3 to 4 weeks of classroom experience should be enough. The more, the better...
    And, more importantly they see how you answer during the interview. For instance: try to provide examples from your school experience when you answer. This gives them the impression that you have learnt a lot from your experience. That's what I did...

    Good luck for your next interview.

    I think this is often true for primary,but in general I don't think you are expected to have as much as that for secondary (although if you can get it, go for it!), as they are usually a lot more difficult to arrange placements for and thereis ofen a limited amount students are actually allowed to do in the classrooms.

    I think if you check to see if what the unis you apply for state as a minimum that is a good starting point, but I think in general 10 days ish is usually sufficient. Good luck with your application!

    Been lurking here a while and it seems in most part the interview and what experience you have are the most decisive aspects if you get into your course.

    I have a interview soon, would it be a good idea to drop into a school to bump up my experience? it's a bit late but I can see it helps having visited more than one place even if it is for a day or two.

    Ive had many experiences over the years since i was about 16 or 17 (im 25 now) in different environments dealing with children so i think that helped me understand teaching and dealing with children. In my interview they asked me something along the lines of how would i ensure the children behave in the classroom, what type of behaviour monitoring would i do to make sure i have control of the class. And i wasnt expecting that question lol.

    Hi guys,

    I have been invited to attend a PGCE-science interview at the University of Reading.
    As far as I know, the interview is shared with other PGCE applicants and will consist of: An introductory talk, a written task relating to an issue relavant to science teaching and subject knowledge questions and finally a brief presentation (5mins) to focus on an area of science appropriate for KS3 or 4.

    Has anybody had an interview at the Uni of Reading?
    If so how did you find it?

    Thanks
