Re: Access to HE 2012-2013
I am quite shy, so I dont like walking into a classroom full of people I dont know :/
But I think it will be easier now, considering its all "mature" students and not very
young teenagers
My biology class is on tuesdays 9am-12pm followed by GCSE English 12.30pm-2pm.
Do you have to do GCSE English? -
Re: Access to HE 2012-2013
Ahhhh same but once you get to know me then you won't be able to shut me up :P Hahaha! I tried going to college to do a levels but the students where all 16 and i felt so out of place, due to the immaturity (undestandable though we was all that age once
) Hopefully it will be different this time and easier to participate in a class when everyones equal
Oh well hopefully we will have the same class as the lady who interviewed me said that biology was in the morning! Nope no GCSE English for me as i have my GCSE's at c and above. Looks like your gunna be pretty jam packed
So very excited!!! 2 month wait though. Seems like forever hahah! What you planning to do once you've finished you access course?
Chelle x -
Re: Access to HE 2012-2013Thats what I hope as well. I think most of the people will have certain goals they want to achieve so that should make a difference.(Original post by Chelle1990)

I am the same, quiet at first, but when I get to know people better, I can talk nonstop ha ha.
It looks like I will be at college monday to Thursday and will have friday off. But I guess I will have plenty to do on that day off aswell
Are you planning on going on to University after? Or have you got something else planned?
I would love to go to University and do Enviromental Conservation or something in that direction. Already looking on the UCAS website to see, how the application process works.
Where abouts do you live? Maybe we can meet up for a coffee in August, before the madness starts?

Re: Access to HE 2012-2013
Yeah i think everyone will be more focused and wanting to succeed, instead of going because 'they have to'.
I'm hoping its monday to thursday! 3 day weekend woohaooo lmao. Though still be hard work as i have two little ones so i will be revising and looking after them with the help from my partner
Any little ones?
I am hoping to go to Oxford Brookes to do adult nursing or university of the west, prefer brookes as they have a campus here at the hospital (i think its there but there is one in Swindon).
Havent looked at the UCAS website yet but been reading into personal statements. Will have a look at the website in a bit
I live near town more faringdon park way. Yes that sounds lovely! Would be nice to have someone we know before we start lol. Even if they arent the same classes
Never thought anyone from new college would be looking on here haha!

Luckily I was wrong!
I have got two girls, 8 years and 5 years old. It's going to be hard work, but cant wait to start. So fed up with being a stay at home mum.
How old are yours?
I think we all have study skills together on a wednesday, but not sure. Even if not, would be nice to have a familiar face

I love my mum, but i couldnt sit on a till for the rest of my life like she has just to support my family. So decided its time to take action! Lol plus i get my course for free thankfully so has made it a dream come true!

My youngest one has started school last september and now they are both in school every day from 9am-3pm. It gets so boring at home!
Lucky you, getting your course for free! I have to pay the course fee :/ But it will worth it in the end
We definetly need to meet up for revising biology. Even if we are not in on the same days, I'm sure we will be learning the same things.
Another thing I am dreading is the personal statement for the University application :/ That will be a though one ha ha

Re: Access to HE 2012-2013Ooooh i want my timetable already!! Just so i can compare to yours and see if we will be in the same classes haha! Wont be long though then i can let you know!(Original post by DaniD)

Ah bless i bet!! I have a clambering 1 year old whilst eldest is in pre school so theres never peace and quiet, so hate to admit it, but looking forward to her going into the nursery so we can have some space. But dreading it at the same time as she hardly ever been away from me more than a few hours :/
The course fee wasn't as high as i expected it to be as i thought i might have to pay it as well, i've seen some people on here paying a good grand for the same course
Oh yes the personal statement! Apparently we start doing that in October so then the tutor can add to it, as theyt would know us a bit better by then. Gunna be hard trying to write a eye catching personal statement when everyone is going to be competeing for the same place lol!
Think we high jacked the thread haha!! Send me a pm on here and i'll get back to you later in the evening when kiddies are in bed, little on is currently chucking her juice all over the sofa so need to clear that up and wake OH up as we have parents over for dinner!!
Enjoy the rest of your day, talk later! (sorry to everyone else for taking over the thread lol!)

Re: Access to HE 2012-2013I was waiting to hear back for just over 3 weeks. Bit of a long wait, but it was worth it in the end. Just went down to the college to enrol today, as at Lambeth places are given out on a first-come, first-served basis, so once you've received your letter you have to enrol promptly in order to secure your place. They took my photo and made me a student ID pass all ready for September!(Original post by samf1989)
That's brill news! How long were you waiting to hear back? -
Re: Access to HE 2012-2013(Original post by Threxy)
I am not sure about UWE, I've heard of it plenty of times around this forum but since I'm not from the area and have never looked into it, so I don't know what its considered. lol. But at the end of the day it's about going to a place you'd like to study at and you know will help set you up for the future, for physiotherapy, nursing and OT, don't you get an NHS bursary of some sort as well as accredition, so it doesn't matter where you to to uni right? lol.
I'm a bit indecisive about where I'd like to go to uni exactly, but there are a handful of unis I'd snap at the chance of going if I got the chance, I'm hopefully gonna be applying for Manchester, Sussex, Liverpool, Kent and possibly Leeds. I want to do a bioscience, probably biology but I'm interested in genetics/neuroscience too, I don't have any solid career goals, I'm moreso interested in my actual subject and the whole uni experience too. I'll probably make a better decision once I visit these unis at some point. I'm strongly considering a FY first.. which would mean spending the first year in a uni partnership college.
I'm personally from Coventry, which is in the West Midlands, so I have no clue about colleges in the North-West, but have you tried this website?
http://www.accesstohe.ac.uk/
Hi, when I did my access course I applied to bristol, birmingham, liverpool, leeds and cardiff. I got interviews and offers from birmingham, leeds and liverpool.
There were also people that applied and got into uni of cambridge so you can pretty much go where ever you like and since I got an offer from some of the unis you want to apply for you should go for it. However some unis are a bit funny so email the addmissions dept before you apply just in case.
Good luck!! -
Re: Access to HE 2012-2013Wow cool! I start the pre-access tomorrow, for the Level 2 English, it's an 'intensive' course so will be finished before September. I get an ID card tomorrow :-) but I'm thinking of asking the English tutor, who is also the Head of Access at the college, about the situation. Seeing as it's been over 3 weeks.(Original post by akpad)

Re: Access to HE 2012-2013Hi Mr. Frying Pan.(Original post by Mr. Frying Pan)
Completed my initial assessment last week, said I was working towards Level 3. Now I have my interview in 2 weeks. What has everyone's interviews been like?
Well done on the assessment
My interview was more like a talk, first question she asked me when i sat down to talk, was 'what university are you planning to apply for when you've finished your access course' Luckily i had done my research and spoke about my the uni breifly. Then she spoke about what i want to do, what GCSE's i had, explained that, as well as my 3 choice subject i have to do basic IT and Study skills what its about ect....
Then asked to see my qualifications, provisionally accepted me and then said i'd hear back
Hope thats some help, I know some interviews are more indepth (researching a article writing something or talking about it) Depends what your interview letter says.
Good luck with getting on your course

My interview actually took 2 minutes. Just waiting on written confirmation of my place. Gah, the college I have applied to SUX for administration. As soon as I get my qualification, runs away from this place. Which college you applied to bro?
