UCAS Form

Hi guys,

I think I'm going to go for it and apply to vet school for a 2013 start. If I don't get in my second option is BA Hons primary teaching with QTS - completely different I know.

So my question is, if I send off my UCAS form for Vet School, I obviously can't apply for the BA Hons at the same time as the personal statement wouldn't be transferable....so would I be able to apply at a later date or would I need to wait until 2014 applications for the BA Hons....

It's tricky that if you don't get onto vet medicine you have to wait another year to apply for that or something else

I'm no spring chicken either!
If you find out by Feb/March time that you've been unsuccessful for the vet schools then there is the option to use UCAS Extra. This function is basically a second chance for people who haven't got the offers they were wanting (through being rejected everywhere or just no longer liking the ones they have) or for people who have decided they want to change their course. Theoretically, you could use Extra to apply for primary education and send a new PS but not all universities/courses are available. Last year there were a couple of primary courses available in Extra, but not very many as its a high demand degree. If you have the ability to offer a foreign language then this will increase your chances of finding a place in Extra as these courses tend to have vacancies for longer as they're more specialist. If you can be flexible with where you go to study primary education and are flexible with your specialisms (ie: are open to doing KS1-2 rather than EYFS and KS1, for example or the reverse) then you might get lucky in Extra. When it comes to actual teaching, with QTS you can teach any age range so the specialisms don't really mean anything beyond something extra to put on your application. I trained in KS1/2 but I'm definitely more of an EYFS/KS1 teacher

If there weren't any options in Extra that were of interest to you then you'd be looking at 2014 entry, yes. For teacher training, places rarely come up in clearing as its so high demand and its a government requirement that the universities interview all potential teachers (plus have fitness to teach declarations and CRBs before the course starts) so if you were applying at the end of August there would be less time for them to do all of this before the course starts.

Great thanks for the reply - that is what I thought would be the answer!

OK, so I've booked in work experience in both schools and vet practices now for early 2012 so that I can make my decision......!
