I'm applying for fashion merchandise management and fashion buying management at Westminister to start in 2012.

Im on a BTEC Extended Diploma in East Yorkshire atm so will be moving down to London if I get accepted.

Im predicted well over what the university expects for grades and my tutor thinks im well on my way for D*D*D* but im pretty nervous about putting a portfolio of work together for the interview etc!

    Hi all,
    I've applied to the following-

    LCF- Fashion Management
    LCF- Fashion Retail Management
    Westminister- Fashion Buying and Merchandising
    MMU- Fashion Buying and Merchandising

I'm studying 3 A-levels and my predictions are over the entry points so fingers crossed all will go well!

So far I've got a conditional from MMU which is my back back back up however apparently we dont hear from others for another month or so...

    Hello
I am sending my UCAS off next week. I have heard for many unis we have to submit mini digital portfolios before we are even considered for interview. Jeez! What universities have you applied to?

I am not sure for the moment but I think it will be Westminster, CSM, Glasgow and you?
Do you know if Westminster is good? because I have seen the campus is not in London center but in Harrow (north of London)

Westminster used to be really good, but it moved out of London to Harrow ten years ago and it has been declining since then. You are better off at LCF or Central St Martin's. If not got the top grades then Middlesex is better or London Met.
Ok thank you! But I've seen their fashion show, I've found it quite good! What annoyed me is the location, not being in London center... and do you know if Ravensbourne is good for fashion?

    Re: Fashion Applicants 2012?
Hey, I've sent off to study Fashion Design at Leeds and got an offer from there, I've also had an interview at Huddersfield uni and got an offer the day after my interview. I live there so i thought I would put it down in case i want to live at home next year. I dropped out of manchester uni this year because i hated it so much!

Ive also applied to northumbria and nottingham trent for fashion design but i still need to hear from these places. Has anyone else heard from those two? I have sent off an online portfolio to nottingham trent and just wondered if anyonne has heard back?

Also, I still have one more university choice to put down so has anyone got any good advice of which other unis would be good? I got 2 A;s and 1 B in my A levels.

    Thanks sorry for so much!

I see that they are already sending out offers before even the January deadline for UCAS applications. This means they are giving an offer to essentially every single person who applies.
AT Ravensbourne and my own college we wait until all applications are in after the deadline and then we carefully select students who will do well. Only then will we send out offers. If they are making offers before January for such a popular subject as fashion then I would be wary.

Surely though you can't judge it by if they send out interviews/offers or not or not before the deadline?! A lot of my friends have had 4/5 of their offers back and their uni's are Durham, Exeter, Lancaster, Newcastle, Edinburgh...as well as Oxford for interviews...and there is no way you can say these are bad unis! Especially when a lot of these are Law courses...a very popular course.

I'm not arguing that Westminster is good/bad...but you cannot tell by the way they process their applications... it's different at every university.

I went to the open day and felt the campus was okay, right next to the university building itself, basically equipped, furnished and kitted out. The only thing that has put me off is since I have heard bad things about Harrow itself. It is a bit grim, lots of run down dirty shops with pigs heads and weird stuff in the window, there is a high crime rate, high population of immigrants etc. It has put me off slightly tbh...

I went to an open day and loved the course and the atmosphere. Its my first choice and I was really stressed when I read what fashionlecturer said above about them taking anyone.

I have just come off the phone after speaking to admissions at Westminster. Turns out they haven’t sent out any offers for fashion design at all. The woman in admissions said as the course is so popular,( last year 1200 people applied apparently!) they have to wait until all of the forms are in after the January deadline before they then ask everyone to send in examples of their portfolio. From this they decide on about 250 to interview as they only have 40 places.

If you read their website students from this year have already got loads of great jobs here and abroad, some with Armani and Thom Browne in new York as well as Roksanda Illincic who I would love to work with!

I'm not gullible at all, just done my research.

I went to an open day that was just for the fashion course and spoke to students there who all told me how hard the course is to get in to. I know how popular it is as there were over 150 people there just for the fashion open day and they have had one every week.

If you read their website they say they select 250 applicants to interview in March after their first round in January where you have to send in portfolio work, and you need to have a distinction at foundation for them to even consider you for an interview.
