    Re-elect Jo - ACTIVELY YOURS FOR ANOTHER YEAR
    Hi there,

    One for all your current Sussex students - hopefully you've noticed that the Students' Union elections start next week and I'm restanding as the Activities Officer.

    As the current Activities Officer I’ve got the knowledge and experience to develop & improve activities. Let me build on my successes and learn from the past to bring you more!
    • I oversaw Sussex’s biggest Freshers Week ever – bigger events and the highest club/society sign-up ever
    • I’ve helped develop the website and made information more accessible – it’s now easier to use, contains more useful information and a forum for students to talk to each other and student reps
    • I’ve campaigned for more funding and support – the motion I submitted to the AGM was unanimously passed and also aims to increase accessibility so that more people can take part
    • I’m working to get the effort and enthusiasm of students formally recognised by the University. We’d be nothing without students’ hard work and it’s time this was rewarded.
    • You can see more of what I've done in my blog
    I’ve kept my promises from last year and I want to build on these to bring you more;

    Even bigger Freshers & ReFreshers events, training, free trial sports memberships, better postering & publicity, wider participation, investing in Falmer House, more events and stuff going on, links with other organisations, creativity.

    Voting takes place Tuesday-Thursday - see posters for more details

    Re-elect me for continuity & development – let’s give Sussex a headstart

    Jo x

    I would like to know what you would do as activities officer to support the BSMS sports teams as currently the support that they have got is limited. The rugby team have not been able to practice or play matches on the sussex pitches due to the extremely high prices that the uni is charging them so they currently are paying to go to hove once a week to practice which doesn't really seem fair.

    Yeah I know, this is a problem. Unfortunately the Students' Union can't currently afford to support separate med teams (we had to cut some of our sports clubs at the end of last year so please don't take it personally).

    The sports service (which as a University department is separate to the Students' Union) gives us an allocation of facility hire at a reduced rate but any additional requirements (such as our women's cricket team which has recently restarted or our breaking and cheerleading societies) are charged at the full rate (not even the student discount). I included this in the Student Submission that went to the University Council as part of the Sort US Out campaign.

    I want to work with Brighton Students' Union (as BSMS students are members of both), the Medical School and both Universities to ensure that we can support medical students. Part of the motion I submitted to our AGM is to ensure that everyone can have access to something they enjoy which includes med students!

    I hope that answers your question. If you get in touch with more details I'll get started ASAP!
