Re: University of Southampton Criminology Applicants 2012It was a bit of a random pick to be honest, wasn't sure if it was maybe going to be a bit out of my reach because I was doing a BTEC but went and visited the campus and was pretty much blown away by it.
The fact that my fees will only be about £6000 because my parents household income is quite low swayed it as well. And the reputation Southampton has

Re: University of Southampton Criminology Applicants 2012
Doing a BTEC extended diploma in public services at the moment; needed something that would ease me back into education after working full-time for a year or two
Means I miss out on all the exam stress, but part of me is worried that I'm going to be a little behind others on the course, although criminology isn't a subject that people usually have the chance to do before degree level...
Good luck with your exams!

Re: University of Southampton Criminology Applicants 2012
I wouldn't worry, a lot of the people on my course studied the same course as you and are coping fine
and the 1st year is introductory and will give you an insight into criminology, sociology, anthropology and psychology. There is only one criminology module in the 1st year. Thank you I need all the luck I can get!

Re: University of Southampton Criminology Applicants 2012Ah, beautiful! Put my mind at rest. Criminology is quite a small course isn't it? Something like 30 places per year?(Original post by Megginty)

How many exams do you have? One or two for each module? -
Re: University of Southampton Criminology Applicants 2012
You never really notice as the majority of the social science students have the same lectures and seminars so there is normally 100+ in most lectures
and last year Southampton were very lenient with meeting grades as the course was undersubscribed. This semester I have four essays and an exam for each module.

Normally 1500 words
in relation to Student Finance, Southampton are notoriously bad at confirming your enrolment and if they don't do this you won't receive your grants etc. so if your money isn't paid in after four working days of the expected payment date check the uni has confirmed your enrolment. Just telling you this because this year a lot of people didn't receive anything for up to a month after their enrolment. The joys of being a student

Re: University of Southampton Criminology Applicants 2012Noice!

What university was your first choice?
Nice to know I have more SF related fun to look forward to... How long did it take after firming Southampton for you to hear anything from them in regards to accommodation etc?(Original post by Megginty)

Not many people have the chance to do criminology at GCSE/A-level so we should all be in the same boat. -
