    University Interview
    Hi guys,

I have an interview for BSL & Deaf Studies at UCLan on 13th December, I was just wondering what kind of things I might be asked, not necessarily specific to the course, also just general uni interview questions

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Dan

Ahh, I never see anyone really post stuff about BSL and Deaf Studies!

How did the interview go? I've applied for the same course, but still waiting for a response from UCLan, application got sent off from my college quite late!

Just hope that the course has enough interest and runs!!

Oh yes it went great thanks!

Martin Atherton who was supposed to take my interview was off ill, so Robert Lee delivered it instead, so I'm not sure that the format will be the same.

The interview took c. 25 minutes, but was mainly just discussion about the course, and seeing whether I had any questions about the course or the university (I would advise that you make sure you prepare plenty of questions, just in case; although make sure you're not asking anything that's covered in the prospectus).

If I recall rightly the only real questions I was asked was why I wanted to do the course, and where I wanted it to take me, which for me is interpreting, and luckily the interviewer was an interpreter in a previous life, so I was able to ask about that.

Good lucky with your interview! If there's anything else you want to know, that I may be able to help with please ask, and let me know how it goes when you get it!

Glad it went well for you

Will have to start making a list now then! Ive been constantly reading over the course content and links and stuff on there! I think I asked most things at the open day that I had questions about, will just repeat them if I can remember them!

Ahh, I'm a bit unsure of what I aim to do with the degree, at the moment I'm torn slightly between the possibility of going into teaching or interpreting.

Did they do a BSL assessment with you? I've seen on their website that they do an assessment but when I went to the Open Day they said it was ok to have no prior skills of BSL.

Thanks for sharing about your interview and I hope to possibily see you in the future!

    Re: University Interview
I have no prior knowledge, so there was no need for a BSL assessment, not sure whether I mentioned it in my personal statement or in one of the emails I sent them, but they found out somehow.

The course is split into cultural studies and interpreting studies in the second year, so you could ask them if they offer guidance in the first year to people who are unsure about which route to take; that will both help you with your decision, and give you a question you can ask them, so two birds, one stone.

Where else have you applied, and for what? This course was the only one I applied for so it was a massive relief when I got my interview, and then my conditional!

N.B. The entry requirements are not on the website, so I asked about them in my interview and they said 240-260 ucas points, and my conditional was at 260.

    Hey guys!

I had an interview today and have been offered a place providing I pass my Access course! My UCAS said my application was still under consideration when I got my letter from UCLAN through. It is the only course I have applied for so I am massively relieved!
I prepared loads for the interview and was so nervous, but it was with Martin Atherton who was lovely and it was just an informal chat/discussion. He was going to see if someone was available to assess my BSL ability but there wasn't anyone around which didn't seem like a big deal at all.

    Hopefully see you there!!

    Hi guys,
Sorry, I haven't been on here for a while! Great to hear from you Katie! Gradually building up in numbers!! Glad it was successful for you. I've got my interview on Monday 6th I've started preparing possible questions that I might ask when I'm there to show more of an interest.
Just like the both of you it is the only course I've applied for. Fingers crossed we all get in.

Who's your interview with? Don't get too nervous. I was really nervous but it was really just a discussion and cosily informal.

Heyyy! I had my interview aaaages ago and was really worried, I wore smart trousers and everything haha mine was with Martin atherton, and it was absolutely fine, more of an informal chat about the course and checking it's the right thing for me to do instead of an interrogating interview ! Got my offer and I've secured it as my first choice now, and I'm doing my level 2 BSL now, but I can't remember what they said that would count for ucas points wise... Really looking forward to starting! Hopefully see you all there, xxx

Also, my conditional says 280 points? Although I was told 260 ish as my level 2 would count for some, I've emailed Martin atherton asking but he hasn't got back to me... Haha anyone have any ideas?
I've also applied at wolverhampton which is only 200 points and that focuses more on interpreting and you have to have at least level 2...uclan deffo sounds better though haha
