BTEC are Crap and Yet A level Students are CHEATS?
Discussions for and about BTEC qualifications, including BTEC Nationals and BTEC Extended Diplomas.

Re: BTEC are Crap and Yet A level Students are CHEATS?Yes, but it is beyond the capacity of the students to cheat in this way. From their perspective it is simply good exam technique. The students cannot be blamed for taking this information on board.(Original post by FinalMH)
The articles are implying that teachers know what keywords get better marks and know what questions will turn up in the exams. By telling the students this, it gives them unfair advantage towards the exam. Don't you agree? Chances are if you didn't know this knowledge then you would get lower marks. -
Re: BTEC are Crap and Yet A level Students are CHEATS?Yes, they play games during there free periods while us A level students have to work our ass off, sorry but it infuriates me. I've been to several BTEC classes so I know what these students have to go through. But IMO its not really as hard as GCSES.(Original post by FinalMH)
That statement is so ignorant, do you even know what a BTEC student does lol -
Re: BTEC are Crap and Yet A level Students are CHEATS?excuse me? ALL OF OUR WORK IS COURSEWORK BASED(Original post by trrr)
How are they same? A Levels are much harder. BTEC is easier than GCSES IMO. Saying their the same is an insult to the hard work I have to do everyweek.
that means 100% essays to a certain standard you can't say its not 'hard-work'. -

In your experience BTEC classes are the same as GCSE this reflects the standard of teaching done at that specific college. That doesn't mean its the same throughout the whole of the UK. I assume every single student got top grades?
What pisses me off is when you get A level students who patronize BTEC students because they believe they are better which in actually fact they just haven't woken up to the real world.Last edited by FinalMH; 09-12-2011 at 19:08. -

getting good grades isn't the be-all-end-all of having a successful career.
Personally I've preffered doing my BTEC to A-levels, and am hoping to start university next year with a DDD(BTEC GRADE)/AAA (A-Level) Equivalent, so don't presume that everyone who does them is the same, I know plenty of people who are so called 'clever' and do them. -
Re: BTEC are Crap and Yet A level Students are CHEATS?Well It'd be stupid to assume that nobody who takes A Levels has EVER tried to cheat. I'm sure that every year there are a few people who try. Some people at my college tried to do so last year in fact (and ended up bringing everyone's coursework grades down in that subject in the process(Original post by sonicx214)
Could you please elaborate?
). But obviously they were caught. And the VAST majority of students don't want to, nor try to, cheat. And as I said, the same goes for BTECers.

Re: BTEC are Crap and Yet A level Students are CHEATS?when i say "it has nothing to do with the students" i don't mean it doesn't have an effect on students, I just mean that it isn't the students who are cheating - they don't know their teachers are giving them tips they shouldn't be giving, and didn't ask for them in the first place!(Original post by FinalMH)
To be fair from watching the news and reading the articles and coming from a BTEC background, I can see what the OP is trying to say but the way he has present it is appalling.
"It has nothing to do with the students" You seem smart but you seem to not have understood the article.
The articles are implying that teachers know what keywords get better marks and know what questions will turn up in the exams. By telling the students this, it gives them unfair advantage towards the exam. Don't you agree? Chances are if you didn't know this knowledge then you would get lower marks.
However this is just speculation. I know i don't know you personally and for that reason i can't judge you academically but it would be ignorant to suggest people would all get the same marks without this knowledge.
The thing is, often you can work out what keywords will get you better marks, and what questions may come up by looking at past papers and examiners reports... so although i agree that it's not fair for some students to be given information they shouldn't have, i think those that deserve good grades will still get them, just maybe there will be people that don't deserve them that get them too.
the issue here for me is not about cheating, or A-Levels vs BTECs, or anything like that.
It's WHY people are cheating. There is FAR too much of an emphasis on the 'need' to go to uni, and a complete lack of other options. Schools have to think about getting good grades, and showing they get lots of people into unis. that's stupid! so is the idea now that people who don't go into any further or higher education (and leave school at 16) are less academically able and stuff like that. it's ridiculous.
there need to be alternatives to uni that will allow people to gain qualifications of an equal standing. at the moment, school leavers seem to only have the options of going to uni or looking forward to a low-paid job. but those shouldn't be the only options. things like apprenticeships are very few and far between now.
although i've always wanted to go to uni, i don't think it's for everyone and i think a degree isn't always the best option for quite a lot of jobs. my brother did well at school, but had abolutely no wish to do any A-Levels. He left school at 16 and managed to get a very rare apprenticeship with national grid and is now working for them, earning £30,000 pa at the age of 18. why can't there be more opportunities like this?
i realise i've had this rant at you! sorry! -
Re: BTEC are Crap and Yet A level Students are CHEATS?Yh ok but a DDD wouldnt get you to cambridge so its not an equivalent, its good nonetheless. TBH getting good grades haVE nothing to do with IQ anyway, Having a good IQ is having the ability to make the right decisions and if it gets u to where u want to go then all the luck then.:(Original post by fairylights)

I go to a college that only offers btecs and we're not all stupid and actually attend classes, get good results and dont 'sit around playing games' all the time
